Khans of Tarkir (KTK) will be released on Friday, September 26th and we will have a full line-up of events for you to crack packs, build decks and play Magic at both of our stores! The weekend will kick off with our flagship Sealed Deck style event.
The Battleground Fat Pack Challenge is taking place on Friday night, 9/26/14, at both locations (run as our FNM). These are the ultimate sealed events – where you open packs, build a deck and play with just the contents of an Khans of Tarkir Fat Pack!
The concept of a Fat Pack Challenge is pretty simple. Each player will receive an Khans of Tarkir Fat Pack with which to build a 40 card deck. Players may use ONLY what is inside of their Fat Pack to construct their decks. No additional land will be provided!
This time around we’ll be awarding the prizes a little differently than before. During the deck building period, each player that enrolled in the event will receive 1 raffle ticket. An additional raffle ticket will be awarded to players for every match they win. Raffle tickets will be pooled throughout the event.
Battleground will do several drawings each round. If your ticket is drawn you’ll win 3 booster packs of Khans! We know you’ll want to open as much of this set as possible, so we’ve got you covered.
The booster pack raffle will be accompanied by other random giveaways that might include playmats, pins, and tshirts.
We’ve got two of these events for you, one at each Battleground location:

This deluxe version promises to be bigger than the regular game, literally. The enlarged game board shows all of Europe on one side and all of North America on the other, replacing the USA and Germany in the basic version. New custom wooden pieces represent power generators and resources in thematic shapes. An updated deck of power plants features natural gas, with changes to all of the power plants in the game, while new resource cards will improve the process of refilling resources.
The game mechanics of players buying assets in auctions, speculating on resources, and building networks of power plants are not changed from the original, but a new two-player version called “Against the Trust” will be included in the box.
Rio Grande plans to release Power Grid Deluxe on October 16th. It will not be a “limited” edition.

Paizo Publishing has announced its Pathfinder RPG releases for the month of February 2015, first reported by ICv2.com, which is the beginning of a new Adventure Path series: Giantslayer. Releases include the first adventure, a new campaign setting book, an adventure “toolbox,” and a map pack.
The Battle of Bloodmarch Hill launches the new six-part Giantslayer Adventure Path. In this adventure, players must defend a human settlement besieged by orcs while uncovering the truth behind a mysterious death. The adventure is designed for first level characters, and includes information on the giants of Golarion, new game mechanics for giants, and a new Pathfinder’s Journal. The adventure is compatible with the Pathfinder RPG and the Open Game License.
The new Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Tombs of Golarion presents a number of deadly dungeons and tombs for the Pathfinder game world. The 64-page softcover book includes a number of adventures including new monsters, traps, and treasures, as well as suggestions for game masters who want to include them in their own campaigns.
The Pathfinder Player Companion: Melee Tactics Toolbox will be a 32-page softcover book with new rules and game materials designed to enhance melee combat in the game. This book was written with the player in mind, designed to appeal to them rather than gamemasters. MSRP is $12.99.
The last of Paizo’s planned quartet for February will be the Pathfinder Map Pack: River System. Designed to work with thePathfinder Flip-Mat: Basic Terrain Multi-Packand other grassy flip-mats, this set includes 18 full-color map tiles illustrated by Jason Engle. The tiles can be used to create a variety of river scenes, and have a special coating that allows wet, dry, and permanent markers to be used and erased. This will be the 54th Map Pack game accessory.
What do you think of these new offerings from Paizo Publishing? Does Pathfinder have what it takes to stand up to D&D Next? Let us know what you think!
