Game Salute will distribute Green Eye Games’ strategy/horror board game Cthulhu Wars to the trade in Q1 2015, according to hobby news website ICv2.com.
The Lovecraftian big box game tied to the Cthulhu mythos raised more than $1.4 million from more than 4,000 backers in July 2013 and still holds a spot on the Top 10 Tabletop Game Kickstarter chart.
Players take the role of gods and alien races out to expand their power base in the earthly realm, as well as complete six tasks to acquire their faction spell books. On their turn players Gather Power, and in a series of Action Rounds, spend the Power to accomplish goals: moving units, battling others, summing monsters, building gates, awakening their Great Old One. Each faction has a unique set of monsters, special abilities, spell books and requirements, and there are multiple strategies open to each faction to accomplish them. The first player to accumulate 30 points on the Doom Track wins.
The box contains 64 miniatures including the 5 Great Old Ones (Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, Shub-Niggurath, Hastur, The King in Yellow) which range in size from 20mm to nearly 180mm; as well as: 24 Cultist miniatures (six in each color: blue, green, red, yellow), 4 Deep Ones, 2 Shoggoths, 2 Starspawn, 3 Nightgaunts, 3 Flying Polyp, 2 Hunting Horror miniatures, 2 Ghouls, 4 Fungi, 3 Dark Young , 6 Undead, and 4 Byakhee.
Additional components include a map board of Earth (in two pieces, printed on both sides), 4 Faction Cards, 4 Power markers, 4 Doom track markers, 1 Ritual Annihilation Marker, a starting player tile, 24 Spell books, 12 Desecration markers, 22 Gates, a Player Hints & Tips guide, and a rulebook.
The game is for 2 – 4 players, ages 12 and up, and plays in 90 minutes. Green Eye Games plans to release additional factions and maps in the future as expansions, so the game will eventually support up to 7 players.

Indie Boards and Cards has announced two planned expansions for its deduction card game The Resistance this November, according to ICv2.com. Hidden Agenda and Hostile Intent were funded through a combined Kickstarter program that attracted pledges over $100,000, featuring promos and incentives that will not be included in the final retail version. In addition, both expansions include a number of “modules” that can be added to the base game in any combination.
Hidden Agenda includes three modules. In “Assassin,” the roles from The Resistance: Avalon have been re-themed and renamed for the Resistance Universe. The “Defector” module introduces characters that can switch sides during the game. And “Trapper” adds a spy-catcher mechanic to the game.
Hostile Intent also features three new modules. “Hunter” shifts the focus from targeting the enemy’s facilities to neutralizing their leaders. The “Reverser” can change the results of a mission, turning defeat into victory (or vice versa). “Inquisitor,” meanwhile, introduces an ability from The Resistance: Avalon that allows the Inquisitor player to examine the affiliations of other players.
The Resistance was Indie Boards and Cards’ breakout hit in 2010. It was featured on Geek & Sundry’s TableTop web program, and is currently available in 20 languages. It is a deductive card game with similarities to the classic party game Mafia and plays in about 30 minutes.

According to popular hobby industry news website ICv2.com, French company Devil Pig Games will release a new board game that combines their World War II board game Heroes of Normandie with the eldritch horror of Modiphius Entertainment’s Achtung! Cthulhu RPG. Shadows over Normandie is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.
Shadows over Normandie is a standalone game that features characters and forces from the Achtung! Cthulhu world. The story follows the Lost Platoon, a few weeks after D-Day, somewhere deep in the Normandy countryside. The platoon is led by Sgt. Carter of the U.S Rangers, with help from the French resistance agent Ariane Dubois, who must stop the Deep Ones and the Nazi Cult of the Black Sun before they summon Cthulhu and unleash the Great Old One on the Allied forces.
Chris Birch, of Modiphius Entertainment, explained how the English and French game companies came together. “We first hooked up with the Devil Pig’s Yan & Clem last spring when we both Kickstarted our respective games. We both got on well (as us Londoners and Parisians do when there’s no one called Napoleon organizing the party) and a tie-up with our world seemed like a match made in heaven so they launched the cross-over expansion Shadows over Normandie. Since then it has become a standalone boxed game in its own right and this latest Kickstarter is to upgrade the contents and add in a bucket of new content.”
The Heroes of Normandie game is distributed in the US by Iello, and according to Devil Pig, has sold 5,000 copies worldwide. The European-based Kickstarter was funded in the first hour, and is now approaching £100,000.00 in funding with 6 days to go. Backer fulfillment is planned for December 2014, with trade release to follow in Q1 2015. The tentative US MSRP will be $80.00 – $88.00. U.S. distribution has not been finalized, but previous Devil Pig releases have been distributed by Iello.

CoolMiniOrNot, publishers of ‘Super Dungeon Explore’, will release Arcadia Quest, a new campaign-based miniatures board game, in December 2014, according to hobby industry news website ICv2.com.
Designed by Eric Lang (Quarriors), the game is semi-cooperative, as each player leads a guild of heroes on a quest to dethrone the vampire lord and reclaim Arcadia. However, only one guild may lead in the end, so players must battle each other as well as teaming up against the monstrous hordes. The game features branching scenarios, and players gain new weapons and abilities as they progress. The game is designed so that players’ actions and abilities can be remembered from one session to the next, and CMON already has plans for additional campaign expansions.
The game is for 2- 4 players, and each scenario plays 45 -60 minutes. The box includes 9 double-sided game tiles, tokens, cards, a campaign book and sheet pad, four guild dashboards, 37 highly detailed miniatures and a rulebook. The game was funded on Kickstarter in March, and raised $774,222 from 4,885 backers ($158.49/backer average).
