Playroom Entertainment will release a new deluxe edition of Unspeakable Words, with new artwork by John Kovalic, this summer, according to hobby industry news website ICv2.
The Call of Cthulhu word game, designed by James Ernest and Mike Selinker, with artwork by Tony Steele won Games Magazine‘s 2007 Word Game of the Year and appeared on the second season of TableTop.
Players compete to form words from the letter cards in their hand, where each letter is worth points based on the angles of the letter. The goal is to make the highest scoring word possible, but the player must test the strength of the word against a roll of a d20. If the roll is equal to or higher than the value of the word, the player is safe. If it is lower, the player loses a piece of sanity, represented by Cthulhu pawns. The first player to reach 100 points (without losing all their sanity) wins.
Originally intended for 2-6 players, the Deluxe Edition will support up to eight players. The edition includes a host of extra items, including a glow-in-the-dark custom d20 engraved with Cthulhu, a screen printed dice/pawn bag; plus 10 of the 40 Cthulhu pawns (in 8 colors) will be glow-in-the dark.
In addition to the Deluxe Edition, Playroom will be reprinting the classic edition ofUnspeakable Words for the 6th time. That edition includes 30 single-colored pawns, and is suitable for up to six players. Classic and deluxe editions can be combined to host up to 14 players.

Rio Grande Games will release a new large expansion for Donald X. Vaccarino’s award-winning Dominion card game in Spring 2015, as first reported by hobby retailer news website ICv2.com.
“We are now working on a new (large box with 400 cards) expansion we expect to have available in the spring (2015),” Rio Grande’s Jay Tummelson said in a recent Board Game Geek forum post.
“We expect then to be able to release the game in late spring – dare I say March or April or May. We will send more information as we have it,” Tummelson also said in another post.
As for future Dominion plans, he also stated, “We may replace the original Treasure and Victory cards (already available separately) in the base set and/or Intrigue at some point, and are also looking at offering a set of the metal tokens (the Treasure and Victory tokens) later in 2015.”
The original Dominion card game, released in 2008, won the 2009 Spiel des Jahres Game of the Year award, the 2009 Origins Award for Best Card Game, and a Mensa Award. The popular card game last appeared on the Top 10 Card/Dice Games chart in Fall 2013. Dominion likewise can take credit for spawning a series of other deck-building board games, including Ascension, Thunderstone, DC Deckbuilding, Legendary, and many others.

Award-winning game designer Donald X. Vaccarino (Kingdom Builder, Dominion)’s card-drafting game Greed was on display at the Queen Games booth at last week’s Gen Con, according to hobby news website ICv2.com. Another Kickstarter-funded project for Queen, it is expected to ship into the trade channels soon.
Queen Games USA’s Executive Director Keith Blume described the game. “You take the role of a late-60’s crime boss, and basically try to acquire the most wealth and become the crime boss of the city. That’s one that’s a little bit darker theme for us, relative to the usual family fair. It’s been getting a lot of play here.”
Players can invest in various legal business “holdings,” hire “thugs” to collect revenue, and engage in criminal activities against other players. Game play is simultaneous, with players drafting and playing cards each round at the same time. Greed can be played by two to five players and plays in about 45 minutes.
Queen’s Kickstarter drive for Greed gathered $26,208 in pledges from 822 backers ($31.88/backer average), well over the modest $5,000 goal.

Greater Than Games has announced the next Sentinels of the Multiverse expansion, according to hobby news website ICv2.com, which will be called Wrath of the Cosmos. The product is currently in Kickstarter, with a planned December 2014 release to backers and later for retailers.
The Wrath of the Cosmos expansion features two new heroes, four villains, and two environments to the cooperative card game based on classic comic books. The players must work together to defend the earth from extra-terrestrial threats.
Sentinels of the Multiverse has been a huge success for Greater Than Games. As Christopher Badell, Greater Than Games’ Design Director and co-owner, explained, “In the last two years, since we released the Enhanced Edition at Gen Con 2012, we’ve sold over 60,000 copies of Sentinels of the Multiverse. That doesn’t count the sales of any expansions or anything else, that’s just the core game itself.”
Greater Than Games is also developing a program to support in-store events for their games. This may include “demo boxes” that include promotional materials for retailers that want to run demos of its games in their stores. An in-store tournament league is also planned to support the new Sentinel Tactics game.
