Asmodee has announced a new release for its Days of Wonder game studio, the first expansion for Bruno Cathala’s Five Tribes, according to hobby industry news website ICv2.com. The Artisans of Naqala will release at Gen Con this August.
The expansion for Bruno Cathala’s “worker displacement” game introduces a new tribe to the game, the Artisans from the mountains of the Sultanate of Naqala. The Artisans are represented by purple Meeples, and their presence adds a new layer of strategy to the game. They can craft magic or precious items: some worth Victory Points, some which unlock special powers. They also bring new tiles (workshops, specialized markets, impassible chasm) and new Djinns to the game.
The box contains: 15 Wooden Tribe Meeples, 6 new Tiles (Workshops, Specialized Markets, and Chasm), 4 Tents, 4 Djinn cards (2 new & 2 revised), 6 Mountains, 18 Item Markers, 1 New Scoring Pad, 4 Summary Sheets and a rule booklet. As an expansion, it requires the base game to play. The game is for 2-4 players, ages 13 and up, and plays in 40-80 minutes. MSRP is $25.00.
Asmodee has announced an expansion for Antoine Bauza and Corentin Lebrat’s popular Takenoko game featuring super-cute baby panda characters in “chibi” style. Takenoko Chibis will be released at Gen Con this August, according to hobby industry news website ICv2.com.
In Takenoko, two to four players must balance the needs of the Emperor’s Giant Panda as they grow a bamboo plantation, competing to fulfill Objectives to score points. The expansion adds nine Panda babies and Miss Panda to the game. The new Objective cards, Plot tiles, and Pandas create new challenges for the gardeners. New landscapes, including the “Sacred Hill” and “Kami Garden” are also included in the expansion.
Takenoko Chibis will include 1 new “Miss Panda” figurine, 9 Panda Baby tokens with images of the adorable creatures, 18 cards, 17 bamboo sections, and 6 plot tiles. As an expansion, it requires the base game to play. MSRP is $49.99.

Asmodee will release a new expansion for Antoine Bauza’s 7 Wonders series, 7 Wonders Babel, in November, according to news website ICv2.com.
The 7 WondersBabel expansion adds a new dimension to the card drafting and set collection game, centered around the construction of the nearby Tower of Babel and other monuments. Babel actually contains two expansions, which can be played individually or together, or combined with other 7 Wonders expansions.
At the beginning of a game, players draft quarter-circle tiles before drafting anything else. The tiles are “laws” that affect all the players while they are displayed after being played on the circular display wheel. They may be infinite resources from a single card, or an effect on how many points winners of military conflicts receive at the end of a round.
In the first expansion, players have the option of playing a new tile rather than collecting three coins, but once four tiles have been played, the next tile will cover the first existing tile (as the tower ascends), so laws can change throughout the game. Players also earn points at the end of the game depending on how many tiles they placed throughout the game.
The second expansion involves a laws card which is chosen at the beginning of each age, with tokens placed on it corresponding to the number of players in the game. The tokens are a tax on players who wish to play cards of a certain color, and as they are played, a player collects a token for paying the tax. If all the tokens are removed by the end of the round, players receive a bonus for tokens they collected, or conversely, if tokens remain, then players who did not pay the tax are penalized.
The box contains 1 Tower of Babel board, 24 Babel tiles, 15 Edifice cards, 1 Participation marker, Edifice chips, a score book and a rule book. The game is for 2 – 7 players, ages 13 and up, and plays in 45 minutes. As an expansion, it requires the base game to play.
Popular hobby industry news website ICv2.com reports that Asmodee plans to release expansions for Dixit and Seasons in 2014: Seasons: Path of Destiny will arrive in Q2, and Dixit: Daydreams will release in Q4.
Dixit: Daydreams won’t be released until Q4, and details are few. The Spiel des Jahres winning storytelling card game was designed by Jean-Louis Roubira, and Asmodee has already released three expansions and the series received a huge “TableTop Bump” after the game was featured on the first season of the show.
Seasons: Path of Destiny is the second expansion for Regis Bonnessee’s sorcerer battle game of cards and dice: Seasons. This expansion adds new powers, enchantments and special abilities, and there will be new strategies for game play, tied to the new Die of Destiny. The box contains 62 cards (42 Power cards, 10 Enchantment cards, 10 Replica Power cards), 30 tokens, 1 Die of Destiny and a rulebook. The first edition printing will also include a special promo card. As an expansion, it requires the base game to play. The game is for 2 – 4 players, ages 14 and up, and plays in 45 minutes. The game will release in late April or early May. Source: ICv2.com.

About Takenoko
A long time ago at the Japanese Imperial court, the Chinese Emperor offered a giant panda bear as a symbol of peace to the Japanese Emperor. Since then, the Japanese Emperor has entrusted his court members (the players) with the difficult task of caring for the animal by tending to his bamboo garden.
In Takenoko, the players will cultivate land plots, irrigate them, and grow one of the three species of bamboo (Green, Yellow, and Pink) with the help of the Imperial gardener to maintain this bamboo garden. They will have to bear with the immoderate hunger of this sacred animal for the juicy and tender bamboo. The player who manages his land plots best, growing the most bamboo while feeding the delicate appetite of the panda, will win the game.
Takenoko is great for 2-4 players ages 8 and up! Plus, this game makes a fantastic holiday gift. Available now at your local Battleground Games & Hobbies.
