Question on Game Scenarios and such.
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:28:58 PM »
So Mike and I finally managed to get a game in NY this past weekend, and we came across a small issue in the book on the "Dawn of War" scenario.

The scenario states that each player starts with no more than 1 HQ and 2 Troop choices to start on the board at the beginning of the game.  My question is, does the HQ choice include the option of having a Honor Squad or Command Squad with the HQ?

In other words, can the Command/Honor Squad start on the board with the HQ choice?

Thanks!
~Ben

If the unit in question is something that is taken as an add-on, a retinue type thing.  Something the HQ must be deployed with and can not leave during the game.  Then yes he is deployed with the acompanying option.

The real thing you have to watch for in Dawn of War is that technically troops in a transport count as two troops choices for that senerio.  So you can only deploy one unit in a transport and an HQ in that senerio.

Kevin you are going to be one of the official rulez judgez for the store. Because is it me or are you 90% of the time involved in a rulez question?  :P

Thanks, Kevin.  So does that mean a Command Squad is a "retinue"?

Also, another question on taking transports, in general.  Can I take a Rhino, Razorback, or Drop Pod without adding it as a Dedicated Transport to a squad?  IE - If I have only 2 troop choices, can I pick 3 or more dedicated transports for them (like 4 Razorbacks)?

Thanks again.

only if you split them up into combat squads, then you can have 1 transport for each combat squad. you cant have a dedicated transport with no unit to dedicate it to. Command Squads are not retinues, same for Honor Guard

Ok, so in the case of "Dawn of War", a Command Squad CAN NOT start on the board at the beginning of Turn 1.  Same goes for the Honor Guard, right?

Well, you COULD field them -- but that would count as your HQ choice to be deployed right?

Yes

Dawn of War set-up refers to one HQ choice.  So however your army works whatever counts as one HQ choice would fill that roll.

For example, and Ork Warboss riding in a Trukk with a Unit of nobz.  In dawn of war, that boss is walking because you can not take the boyz and their trukk as a retinue or attackment to the warboss.  If you take a Tau Commander and give him the two bodyguard Suits, then they would all count as your choice.  because when you pick the commander you may take them to go with him.

It all depends if the susequent unit does not count as an elite, heavy support, fast attack, or troop choice.  I'm not sure what the command squad and honor guard are.  I think the command squad is one HQ choice so it would be able to fill the role of the one HQ deployed.  Sadly, I haven't looked at the space marine book in quite a while.
