ok... so im staying defender? i dont really know which defender to be so can you give me an idea of what you guys are looking for? goliath is the best race for what we need but class is the main question idk any other good paladin paragon paths the phb ones suck

Defenders all serve the same role in combat:  Base yourself with the enemies and keep them from going after your less armored teammates.  That being said, any defender can do any of those things.  It's just a matter of how flavorful you want the character to be.  Some races are better suited for certain classes.  (IE - Dragonborn make better Paladins, Genasi make better Swordmages, and Goliaths, Warforges, and Minators make better Fighters)

That being said, there're plenty of good Paragon paths in the PhB 1.  My guess is that you just haven't found anything you find particularly interesting to play.  If that's the case, then pick up a copy of the Forgotten Realms Players Guide, Martial Power, and/or PhB 2.  All have the stuff you need for Paragon Paths, as well as all the alternate class abilities that can make your PC more interesting to play.

Just because the campaign isn't FR doesn't mean that you can't use something that's in that book.

With DM permission, anything is possible.

Hey Josh, how about a magic blade I control with my mind that has a +20 bonus against all defenses and vorpal properties?  As an at-will attack of course.  Sound good?

Classes; hmm... we have a human wizard, human ranger, tiefling warlord... hmmm... there's a cleric and avenger, but I'm not sure what race they are.

ok well that narrows it down for me to the warden or fighter. are we in the wild or any primal-ish locations? thatd be basically the deciding factor. so most of the party is in melee? hm sure you dont need something ranged? unless the ranger is an archer and the cleric is at range you only got the wizard to hit from afar. just wondering cuz my sorcerer can basically fill the melee and ranged gaps. either way im happy and what level was i to be? 5 or 6?

currently its only 2 melee and 3 ranged. My avenger is an Elf dont know what the cleric is i think maybe dwarf but i could be wrong.

ok well if im allowed morninglord i might do a stormsoul genasi paladin/morninglord/chosen of amaunatar otherwise just a goliath fighter/dread reaper/eternal defender so now its 3m/3r. so whoever the dm is can i know if i can use the forgotten realms guide for these:
stormsoul genasi race
maybe 1 related feat
power of amaunatar feat/power
morninglord paragon path
chosen epic destiny (for amaunator)
if not i could simply replace pelor and amaunator theyre similar or if totally no you got a goliath fighter am i level 5 or 6? did you decide i remember there was one person you thought mayve been 5 idc really just wana play haha

The ranger is indeed an archer build and the cleric uses ranged attacks 99% of the time; the warlord uses a spiked chain (and its reach ability) to attack.  This leaves the party with one straight melee character- the avenger. 

By my math, that's 3 ranged and 1.5 melee.

I'm happier if you use races/classes from the core books and Phb2.  This is because I hate the forgotten realms with the burning, passionate rage of a thousand flaming suns.
