Too bad they got rid of the profession skills in 4E.

Imagine the possibilities with a few ranks in cooking:

camel steak; camel stew; camel stirfry; camel burgers, and my personal favorite, camel surprise!

Oh, well... guess we'll have to take an untrained D20 roll on that one.

I was just thinking about things like profession and craft last night during Steve's game when Bill's halfling started cooking up some porridge.  Not only do these skills not exist, but there's really no reasonable substitute for them.  I guess they were eliminated because they're not all that heroic or important.  You wanna cook some delicious food?  Fine.  Even if you're cooking it for an ostensibly important reason (buffet lunch for the king) you can go ahead and cook it and maybe get a +2 to your diplomacy roll when you try and bargain with the big guy.  You're being rewarded for your ideas in this case.

Yes, we will play tonight.  I plan to kill the cleric first, then the warlord, then the wizard.  Given how incredibly difficult the coming encounters will be, I expect no problems with this endeavor.

That's how the cookie crumbles.

I have to attend the Neuroscience convention in Chicago on 10/17/09 (until Tues or Wednesday of the following week), but I'm not planning on leaving until that Saturday, so our game on 10/16/09 should be fine.  It *should* be, they say, but we'll worry about that when the time comes.

I don't think anyone else loves magic so much that they plan to attend the release tournament, right?

The set would be the next one coming.

Steve always plays in the release (or pre-release) events because they're sealed decks and he gets his cards.  My plan is to go on without him, because we're strong.  And he's weak.

If I don't get sick, that is.  You might want to check this board sometime tomorrow morning just to be sure I don't cancel at the last minute.  I had a cold earlier this week and it's on the mend now, so I plan to go on.  You guys are about 75% or more done with the current dungeon.

Is it just me, or does every room we enter lately seem to have an encounter in it?

Towards the end of the last session, I even purposely tried to look for rooms that seemed likely to contain random loot and no monsters, but to no avail.  Do we just have bad luck?

Certainly it has no relation whatsoever to my abilities as team leader... anyone who disagrees may say so, but risks being roasted alive the next time they sleep.

You're unlucky.  Either that or you suck.

I'll show you the original printout of my adventure key (as well as the dungeon map) if you think I'm cheating your sucking, unlucky self.

Waking up this morning I felt like 10 kinds of warmed up death.  I'm not sure if this feeling will persist, but I might have to cancel.  Let me sit on this feeling for an hour or two and I'll give you my final decision by noon.

(I mean, I'm at work today, which is usually my barometer for whether I can partake of fun activities while ill.)

Okay, gang, I'm gonna have to cancel tonight's game.  It seems like my Swecker blood (mother's side) has betrayed me.  That side of the family always has breathing problems and it seems I can't get a cold without getting a minor respiratory infection to go with it.

I first felt ill on Monday and felt worst on Tuesday.  Wed and Thurs were both pretty OK, but this morning I feel something in my trachea and I'm running a fever again.  I wouldn't want to spread it around among y'all.

So, apologies, but I can't make it this Friday.  On the other hand, I've finalized my Chicago trip plans and I'm not leaving until 10/17, so we're fine for 10/16 gaming.  As far as I know, we'll be clear on our schedule clear through until spring, barring holidays.  Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's of course always pose problems.

If you feel you'll be too bored tonight, you can drop by Battlegrounds for the magic release tournament.  I'm not sure if you'll get any promo cards or stuff like that, but the entry fee is usually around $20.  You get your sealed deck product with that and a chance to compete and win a big prize.

Sealed deck tournaments are great because everyone is on equal footing.  Not only that, you get to take home product that's about the same cost retail as the entry fee.  PLUS it's a new set so no one knows the cards any better than you do.  If you like magic at all, I'd advise you to give it a whirl.

It's been kind of an up and down thing, which is odd.  I felt better by Saturday evening and felt worse again Sunday morning.

Guess I'm on the mend now.  I missed a whole week of Kendo, but I hope I can go tonight.  I spent the weekend watching The Office and playing Heroes of Might and Magic 3.

Ben used to play like Order of the Stick or some other board game when he didn't have the D&D thing together.  We've played the odd game when attendance is low.  I can tell you Rick doesn't like strategy games.  (Though I don't know what you'd call Order of the Stick.)  Tom likes damn near anything.

I've been meaning to buy a few different board games:  Arkham Horror, Quest for Camelot, and some old OOP games.  Maybe I should get them on hand.  That won't help you guys when I cancel on a Friday though.

As always, make sure to check this board after 1:00 ish on Friday if you're at all worried about the game being canceled.  I don't think I've missed keeping my cancellations current yet.  I do get sick from time to time, unfortunately.  :(

The game is basically the boardgame version of the first arc of the comic.

Yes, it really is that insane.

I'm 28 and the only reason why I'm not into 258/2 days myself is because I haven't finished re-chain of memories yet.  Curse you real-time card-based fighting system!  Why is my healing card broken because an enemy on the other side of the map is playing an attack card with a larger number?  WHY!!!!
