Painting White.
« on: October 04, 2009, 05:36:07 PM »
Im goin going to be painting an apothicary for my 4th Company ultramarines soon. Its been a while since I painted anything pure white. I notice some say use white primer some say dont. Should I prime black base coat gray and layer it? or Prime white and wash the hell out of it and Shade in the white? What say ye?

Priming black seems like a bad idea.

I would go with white because I think it just makes the most sense.  For my next army I'm going to try priming white, as I'm very tempted to see how the minis will come out as opposed to black.

Btw, Steve, when are we gonna have our 2 on 2 Ultramarine showdown?  My 2nd company Ultra's are just about ready to go!

I know that I know next to nothing about painting (especially when compared to Ian, you are quite awesome) but I have to agree with him.  It just seems so much more difficult to go from black base to white finished product.

It'd probably be more difficult to start with the white and end up with that creamy white finish but I have faith in you.  You can do it!

well i tried a few peices in white. It was weird but it was less layering but I had a difficult time defining the shades on the model with pure white.

I like the one you primed white the best between that one and the one you primed black.  It could just be me though.  Gotta go with what makes you happiest.

Really? i always thought they had white armor with a blue shoulder pad. Well the time I spent on painting a white marine isnt waisted. I have a cool looking white marine now and I have a much better idea of how to paint a white model.
