Can't believe I won tonight. I had some really tough competition, John and Steve played really well, but my final match against Robert was a knock-out drag-out fight.
More on that later. First, here is my list. I put it together quickly the night before. I figured it was solid, but I didn't think I could go 3-0 with it.
I ran my favorite comb,
Soontir Fel and
Push the Limit (30 points),
Coarnor Jax (26 points) and
Rexler Brath with
Heavy Laser Cannon (44 points).
It was my first time running a TIE Defender and Carnor Jax. I love the Interceptors, though. They're fragile, but SO maneuverable.
In the final I was pretty nervous. I'd never been 2-0 before in a tournament. I made the mistake of lining up my Defender alone against Rob's mini TIE swarm and my Interceptors were on the other side of the board.
I should have lined up Jax with the Brath, because on I think it was the second round, I was able to take out one of his Academy Pilots with Fel, but Robert pecked away at the Defender with his TIE Fighters and then gave it the coupe de grace with the Advanced Proton Torpedoes on his TIE Bomber.
After that, I had to pick away at his remaining ships while trying to keep out of as many firing arcs as possible while still being able to shoot at his squad.
The game came down to my Soontir Fel with two hull left and Robert's TIE Bomber with two or three hull left. I think my maneuverability and a few key dice rolls going my way gave me the win ... but only just.
It has to be the hardest X-Wing game I've played in quite some time.
My opponents really made me earn this victory, so I think that makes it even more satisfying.
I hope that doesn't sound too smug.
Thanks everybody. I hope to see you all next week.
