Codex: Legion of the Damned???
« on: February 21, 2014, 02:57:11 AM »
So, in the latest White Dwarf (featuring many pretty knight pictures) there's a page about Codex: Legion of the Damned.  As far back as third, LoTD has been a unit you can take in a Space Marines army, and nothing more.  Do you guys think this will be a full blown codex, or just a supplement that's poorly named?  What does "Codex" even mean anymore?  GW is confusing me.  Owwww.... Make it stop.

Right, which seems reasonable.... I guess.  My point is that a "Codex" always used to define a full blown playable army with a large number variety of units.

Is that out the window, in favor of adding a dozen or so small codices (Knights, Legion of the Damned, Inquisition (although I haven't actually seen/read the inquisition book, is it like this?)) on top of the standard codices (C:SM, C:Tau, C:Daemons, etc.) AND the supplements (Farsight,  Iyanden, Rauken)?

It's an exciting time to be a player who likes variety, I guess, but what are we losing in exchange (I guess balance....)?  I think it's cool that GW is producing new content and new models from awesome ideas in its past (SQUAT CLOCK RESET) but what about the awesome codices we have that are sorely in need of an update (Orks)?

Didn't the Assassins Codex only have like 4 models in it? Orks sort of got an update with dread mob. Since Orks are supposedly going to be in the new 7th? Edition box that's why they haven't come out yet.
Should the miserable Grot crews survive for long they will soon become deafened and have to resort to a rudimentary system of sign language. This is rarely successful as there are only so many signs a Grot can carry around with him.

GW is just doing random shit.  There's no sense of order.

I don't think GW even knows what they are doing anymore. Let them make their really cool looking models and we can play our own rules, like the NOVA narrative event. Fun for everyone and the store might even sell some models that take up shelf space for months on end because they suck in normal play. I know I'd love to run a deathwing list, but there is no way I am buying hundreds of dollars worth of models that aren't worth fielding.

Actually played a game last night using the narrative format with Deathwing. I had a great time playing it. Only played at 1000 points, but found I enjoyed what I could field using this format much more than standard play.

Deathwing knights are really, really pretty, and I wish there was a way to use them worth a damn.

Narrative event.  If I can make it, I'll be running Deathwing and bringing the knights along for sure.

Legion of the Damned Digi-Codex  It's priced the same as the data slates (IE Cypher) so i'm going guess it's about the same length which is lil over 100 pages in the .Epub format.   I have no idea what that is in real world or PDF pages
Children yet, the tale to hear, Eager eye and willing ear, Lovingly shall nestle near.  In a Wonderland they lie, Dreaming as the days go by, Dreaming as the summers die: Ever drifting down the stream --Lingering in the golden gleam --Life, what is it but a dream?
