Hi all,
I've been doing some thinking based on conversations on the forums and in person regarding the perceived balance or imbalance of 40k, the notion of creating supplemental rulesets to balance the game, and a more casual playstyle being enjoyed by some fraction of our community.
In that vein, I would like to propose an event based on the NOVA Narrative rules/missions from last year, with the addition of the recently published (in beta) supplements for each codex. I think this has the potential to be very fun, offering every player some "new hotness" for their codex, regardless of age. Additionally, I believe that explicitly orienting this sort of thing toward a casual crowd would allow for many players that are excited about events but put off by the competitive aspects of tournaments to participate more actively in the community.
What I would like to know is whether folks in the community are interested in an event like this. I'm also curious how people would feel about requiring some sort of narrative addendum (painting, model, story, whatever) to accompany each army list, to "get people in the mood" so to speak.
The narrative supplements are available here:
http://www.novaopen.com/wp-content/uploads/Narrative-Supplements-31Jan14.pdf. Keep in mind that these are in beta. Also note that Imperial Guard and Orks are missing supplements, as they are likely to get an update before the NOVA (which these are written for). This issue would be rectified for our purposes.
I have the narrative guide, but no way of sharing it at the moment. If you're interested in it, pm me with an email address.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
