Another thing to consider are squadrons. If a unit is taken as a squadron like 3x landspeeders or 3x Leman Russ tanks does that count as a repeat?  In this case I would think no, mainly because its still considered 1 unit and they have to all shoot at the same thing. Personal preference would be to keep squadrons as okay.

What about units that show up in more than one Force org slot?

Either way I am a fan of this.  It isn't as good as Swede in terms of comping, but it is far simpler.

I like it, but how would things like Belial work? He allows terminators to be taken as troops, so If I had him as an HQ I could take a unit of tax marines, a unit of scouts, and then continue on my way to spam terminators as I have taken the other troop options already?

What's great though is that you can just not play with a highlander army, as I might do if I want to run a themed rave wing or deathwing army, and you don't get actively punished for doing so.

This is cool and I'd play it.
Though I'd like to see a separate track for Highlander victories as 3 Riptides is good.  1 Riptide with other stuff is more fun.

So, most FOC swaps bring an elite or something into troops, and I think when that happens they should be just like every other troop choice -- as long as you have one of everything, you can bring as much as you want.  Farsight armies have to have a kroot and a FW squad, but can then take as many Crisis teams as they want.  Draigo wing would have to take at least one unit of Strikes before they could take multiple paladins, etc. (if they took coteaz, too, most do, they would also have to take a henchmen squad, but that doesn't seem like a problem)

In the case of the same unit that can be taken in different slots -- Daemon Princes, tervigons, some dreadnoughts, etc, I think if they're in a different slot they should count as a different unit type.  So, daemons could take a DP in both heavy and HQ, if they took the right kind of greater daemon, for instance.

BTW, my standard list has both a reg Tau crisis team, and a farsight troops crisis team -- I would think those count as separate units.    A better question -- does my commander from Tau and the commander from farsight both break this rule?  Or is it ok cuz they're allied in?

I think dedicated transports should get a 0-2 exception.  I think wholly mechanized lists sorta fit the "spam" idea that this rule is trying to prevent (it's trying to overwhelm you in a specific area....it's the opposite of balanced), but at the same time, yeah, some armies only have one transport and it doesn't seem cool to say they can only have one transported unit.  SM and the like can get 2 razorbacks and 2 rhinos, but that's not going to break anybody.

Actually, thinking about GK could get 6 transports, and that doesn't seem right.  Maybe 0-2 as long you only have one dedicated transport available?

Yes, squadrons should be one choice, after all they only use up one slot.  Just about anything that only uses one slot should count for only one.

maybe give a second dedicated transport of one type (just the one, so your GK could have four total) if you've already taken every dedicated transport available to your army? that lines up with the troops options.

this feels like gaming the system. ally up with yourself to let you double up on a bunch of things but still stay highlander. i don't know though, i'm pretty new to 6th ed so i'd like to hear what other people think on this.

Why not just REQUIRE highlander at an event?  Highlander event.
Name:  Matthew Forsyth
Club:  Errybody in the gettin tips
Where I play: basically I only show up for tourneys or when I'm on my way up to New Hampshire to visit my folks.  I live about 45 mins from both stores, to the south.

I feel like this is probably a cool idea once or twice a year.  Currently I'm not planning to require it in any event.  Some sort of bonus (store credit) for placing well with a highlander list is what I'm leaning towards most.  If we were getting 34-40 person Singles events still I'd award 1, 2, 3 + 1H, 2H, 3H.  Right now there's just not enough money in the prize pool to award 6 people + PC + Appearance.  1/3rd of the event getting prizes means no one is getting a super significant prize.

Still, some thought needs to be given to a lot of this stuff.

This is cool. It would be a fun event and promote list diversity which I think is what most people want. You're not playing against the same thing every battle and the store might sell some models that don't generally sell well. But it doesn't balance the game, and for this type of event, I think allies should count toward your only one of each unit. Otherwise you'll see space marines allying with each other to bring 2 land raiders, tau and farsight each bringing a riptide and whatnot.

Yea, I forgot about two riptides.

What about something like a SM and a DA libby?

It's a Highlander event, so why should one be allowed to bring *two* armies? :p No allies.

ide love to play a highlander Event! back in the Day when i was in high school comp like that was heavily enforced. In fact it was calculated into the best sportsmanship award. I love the idea of bringing comp back.
