Painting Workshop coming to BG Plainville
« on: January 23, 2014, 02:32:23 PM »
Battleground Plainville will be hosting a once a month painting workshop starting on the evening of February 20th from 7:30pm to 9:30pm

If you have questions about techniques or tricks, need some inspiration or organizational advice on getting an army finished in a timely manner, want to learn how to use an airbrush or anything else then stop by to paint or chat about painting and the hobby in general.

The workshops will cover a bit of everything though here and there may focus on one or two topics and evening depending on community interest.

Topics could include:
Highlighting & Shading
Painting flesh
Wet blendings
Basing your models
Painting eyes
Drybrushing
Making and using a wet palette
Priming
Model assembly
Project planning
Painting difficult colors
Painting gems
Weathering models
Applying decals and waterslides
Using an airbrush
Care for brushes

Hope to see you there!

Quick note. Models, brushes, and paints will not be supplied for these workshops. If you're coming to paint bring you current project, ask questions and so on. The intent is to provide demos of techniques that people are looking to learn.

For airbursh sessions I will bring my airbrush and compressor for people to get some hands on with the tools.

Please let me know when you will be focusing on airbrush. I've always wanted to learn how to use them, but I have no experience with them. Looking at your blog it seems like you know how to use it well.

I will bring the airbrush for the first session...could be a bit loud as the compressor charges up but we'll figure it out.

I'm looking forward to this, especially the airbrush part. Will there be some hands on?

Yes. I will have my stuff there and you're willing to try my airbrush...as long and you're nice to it ;)

I should note that models will not be provided for the workshop so you should bring something to paint.

Great, should we bring our own paint? I've heard good things about Badger's paints.

Do you have a recommendation as far as what color models should be primed black / white / gray?

I have used the Badger paints and can bring some for people to try. Personally I do not care for them, there is an element of vinyl to them (if that makes sense) that I do not enjoy. That being said they go through the airbrush nice...but with proper mixing, any paint will go through an airbrush.

Yes, bring your own paints, models, brushes and so on, if you intend to paint. I will have a selection of things I am working on that I can show demos on.

As for which primer it will really depends on the color going over it and what you're looking to achieve with the basecoat.

I may be able to supply models... if I can find my stash of Marines.

My apologies but I need to cancel this evening due to being sick. This was not expected and I am looking to reschedule for next week or the week after...going to be out of commission at least a few days.

For an airbrush I love Vellejo paints, and Abington has a pretty good stock.
