Space Marine stuff
« on: December 18, 2013, 09:30:37 PM »
So I thought that with all the escalation hatin'/lovin' going around these forums I'd try to stoke up some Space Marine talk. I've been working on an Iron Hands list (because I own a lot of vehicles) and have worked out a list I like and has done well so far. But, I haven't been able to find a very good HQ set up. I have been using a chapter master with a jump pack in a unit of vanguard vets, but they seem to lack the punch to deal with other dedicated close combat units in the game and are only really good for cleaning up enemy troops. So, I'm looking for suggestions on how to better utilize my warlord. I was thinking of a chapter master with honor guard in a land raider, but that mean cutting points elsewhere. So maybe a chapter master on a bike with a bike squad, or captain with a command squad?

Just looking for a little advise, any will be much appreciated and thanks in advance.

For CC success, I feel you must have the Shield of Eternity, whatever it is. The wargear is expensive, but it gives you the best chance to live through the big baddie you're looking to go toe-to-toe with. And since you're likely going last in Initiative, a Power Fist or Thunder Hammer will be more reliable at hurting your opponent. Maybe stick him in Terminator armor in a Land Raider? That was my plan before Strength D.

Well, Bike captain or Chapter master on a bike with shield eternal is what everyone considers as a sorta default, now.  Chapter master is purely better for 25, but Captain lets you have command squads, which can have bikes and an apothecary, so that's nice.  However, I will also say that Honour guard are pretty awesome....most circumstances tough as a terminator, way more attacks.  They really need to be in a LR, though.  Which, y'know, I think is awesome, I love LRs and it's way fluffy for ironhands.

Clan Raukaan has that chains thing which is sorta complicated but for most purposes similar to the shield eternal.

You can do all sorts of different weapon options.  Hammer, powerfist, relic blade, that burning blade thing, all good.

Nothing wrong with a master of the forge, either.  Nothing wrong with any kind of Techmarine in a LR, thing could nearly last forever.

If they're not in a LR, I think you're cheating yourself if you don't put them on a bike, however.  There's just pretty much no reason not to.

I havnt read clan raukaan, but I've seen the relcs online which look pretty kool, but is there anything in the book that allws land raiders as dedicated transports for honor guard? Otherwise I have to drop a heavy support which I was already coinsdering to add a hunter tank (my aa right now is twin linked assault cannons), so I wouldn't have room for both the lr and hunter and my aa will be lacking. I've considered droping a dreadnought to add a storm talon or aegis, but the aegis doesn't fit the armies, get up in your face and shoot you with big guns approach. In short I guess it comes down to a land raider or centurions unless I can get 2 vindicators, centurions and a land raider to carry honor guard.

Well, I can't quite weigh all the various choices you in your list, but I'd recommend taking a LR very highly -- it just has so much synergy with Iron Hands.

Land Raider is *not* a dedicated transport option for Honor Guard.

Yeah I was hoping but didn't expect it. Thinking ill try out a biker with the load out Ben brought up, shield eternal and hammer. Unless the gorgon chain thing is simarly priced as the shield eternal. On a related note, anyone know if and when clan raukaan might be published in book form, I very much prefer hardcover over digital.

I think a LR for honor guard transport is worth it personally. Sure it's a heavy slot but if you ally with another chapter you've got 4 of them

The chain artifact is actually cheaper.
