So James and I played an Escalation game this Sunday. Mind you, this was my Orks so no Str D ranged weapons.
Hammer and Anvil and Escalation Linebreaker Mission.
Imperial Fists and Inquisition
1 Dev squad and Inquisitor with Prescience
3 ish Tac Squads
1 Centurion Squad with Grav Weapons and Inquisitor with Prescience
1 Centurion Squad with guns and missiles
Bike Squad with two Grav guns and Librarian with Invis
Kick ass Chapter Master on Bike with Stuff
Orks
Stompa
Bik Mek with KFF (in Stompa)
4 Burna Boys with 2 Meks (in Stompa)
Wall of Awesome with QuadGun
2 units of min grots
1 unit of 15ish Shoota Boyz
2 Units of 13ish Lootas
MegaArmoured Warboss with Cybork
2 SupaKannon Battlewagons
We set up in city terrain. Marines go first and march toward my deployment zone. His death star of bikes has a 2+ cover save, so when I start shooting I avoid sending my big guns at them (my biggest gun in a s10 ap1 7in blast). If I had a str D, that unit would have been gone first turn. Stompa wipes out grav gun fisher price marines with the first shot and a bunch of other stuff.
Long story short, games ends after 7 turns. James won 4-2 on points. I had a Stompa with 10 hull points left (Meks rocks) and 2 SupaKannon BW. James had 1 Dev, and 2 normal marines (from two different squads) left. It was a fun game and he never felt out...well and he won because I was not as aggressive with the Stompa as I should have been.
Now, if the Stompa has a StrD instead of a Str10 gun, the game would have basically been over turn 2. Actually, if he would not have had the invis on this death star squad, it probably would have been a shorter game.
