There was a doubles game at Thursday 40k tonight and someone brought the new big ol' C'Tan in a can. It moved up, dropped the barrage which killed enough make the D flame template unable to reach anything.

The Blood Angels player against him deep struck in two squads full of melta and a melta attack bike and a stormraven. 9 about-average melta shots later, the Necron thing blew up, killing most of the BA squads in the process.

It didn't earn its points back. Big explosions are fun. *shrug* I don't think it was used in an optimized list, just thrown out there to see what can happen. The game attracted lots of attention, but the reaction wasn't all good. "It can do that?! It can do that too?! Shit."

Since all the shots happen at the same time, that wouldn't even work like that.

9 average shots wouldn't kill it, not even close (math says exactly ONE wound, on average).  SO either there's more to the story, or they got really, super lucky.

WHich again, just because it's beatable (and I still think it's mostly not) doesn't make it balanced.

You know what would actually work?  LOts of poison or sniper weapons.

I think your thinking of the trascendant ctan. Ben is talking about the teaseract vault.

Also sniper and poison weapons only wound gargantuan creatures on a 6

Oh, right, that makes sense.  Nevermind, then.  Twice.

Titans are incredibly vulnerable to flyers, and I think Space marines and the (new Crone/Harpy) Tyranids will end up having the best air forces in the game. Marines and nids are also the only two armies with access to super heavy fliers, and backed up by a decent fleet they can seriously bring the pain. Flying monsters can not be hit by ANY D weapons, and can easily land and wreck ass in CC, while stopping walker titans from shooting! Deep striking melta will be pretty good too.

Elite infantry and regular monstrous creatures take the biggest hit, and there seems to be simply no reason to field a GUO or Keeper of Secrets anymore. Keeping terminators and Centurians in reserve or a Land Raider will definitely make them last longer.

I'm still dying to get my hands on Stronghold Assault, and am only going by what I read on the internet. I'm kinda excited to pick it up and play.. and I don't care how big your D is  ;D

So, 100 termagants (only 500 points) with the void shield thing to survive a few turns on the ground and then 1350 points of air that will be near un-killable and rape face. Think I just found my army of the future.

Edit: don't know how many points the void shield thing is, so maybe, 1000 points of air?

I don't think a bunch of plastic models are going to be sexually assaulting anyone.

Yes, Typhus. I, too, find humor in the prospect of sexually assaulting people.

"With the publication of Warhammer 40,000: Escalation, players now have the option of taking Lords of War choices in their armies. The following is a list of Forge World models that should be considered Lords of War choices and may therefore be taken using the guidelines detailed in Warhammer 40,000: Escalation, along with the publication in which the model’s most up to date rules can be found."

NOTHING IS SECRET.  EVERYTHING IS PERMITTED.

This is just getting stupider and stupider by the day.

Good find Typhus

I would think that as this document came from Forgeworld and not GW it is just a clarification on compatibility for those who want to use/have Forgeworld stuff.  I don't think they are necessarily saying that all of these should be used in a "standard" 40k game, otherwise I would think GW would have put them all in the Escalation book.

Just my take on it.

That saying it is interesting to see this document.

Since Forgeworld is GW...

This list makes escalation fair and make sense.

I don't really care what FW or GW declares "legal" anymore.  They say the Dataslates are "official" but there's really no good reason for them existing (or at least the Tau Firebase one).  Basically, the value of GW's word with me over the last two weeks has completely evaporated.

I will also point out that main GW pays zero attention to what FW does, FW isn't even allowed at Throne of skulls tournaments.  (though I hear Escalation might be now?  WTF?)

If you just want to push models around and roll dice for the sake of rolling dice, hey it probably doesn't matter much what rules you use.  "Forge the narrative!"

If you want a competitive game where the skills of the player actually matter, hey you're probably going to have to re-write some rules.  Ban some things, allow others.  This has really been true for a while but it's super-obvious now.

I, for one, welcome our new Strength D overlords.

But seriously, I think this is awesome. Let's just start playing games at 3k, with these models allowed I'm pretty sure the game becomes pretty balanced at that level.

IMHO, we shouldn't raise points allowance, because what if you get 2 armies that DON'T use superheavies fighting each other? You would need to lengthen game time to let those people finish.
