I very strongly doubt The Hobbit would ever be delayed, as GW has to meet contractual obligations to the companies pulling the strings with the Hobbit license( The Saul Zaentz Company d/b/a Middle-earth Enterprises under license to New Line Productions, Inc) to be specific.
It's not an "inhouse" IP that GW can just toss on the backburner whenever they like, if The Hobbit was delayed past the release time of the movie, I guarentee The Saul Zaentz Company would crush GW's ass for failure to meet any contractual obligations for release. Fyi The Saul Zaentz Company is just as sue happy as GW, they have owned certain LOTR and Hobbit rights since 1976. They are partly to blame for the 10 year delay for the Hobbit movies and even in 2011, began several legal actions against small businesses in the UK who used the "hobbit" word, to enforce their "Hobbit" trade mark.
So in conclusion, GW is not the only company that is profiting off of The Hobbit game.
