Ok, a few more questions about Black Templar.

1. can BT take tac squads and scout squads or is it crusader squad only, meaning no sniper rifle scouts.
2. can a close combat oriented BT army be at all competitive, I'm thinking Vanguard if they can still charge the turn they deep strike and 2 power weapons in each crusader squad.
3. is adding neophytes to a crusader squad a good idea, seems to me it makes the squad no longer fit in a transport that's not a land raider and it is no stuck running across the battlefield.

Thank in advance for responses, I'd really like to put together a BT army I can have fun with and not get blown off the table in a few turns and appreciate all the help I can get in doing so.

1. BT can take everyone but a Librarian.
2. I dunno, maybe?  The extra neophytes bodies help, but it's hard to game the wound allocation.  I would mostly use Landraiders.
3. If you were running them on foot as a CC unit, I think you really have to try to run them at max 20 units.  I'd rather see them in an LRC, 10 initiates, 5 neophytes though.

The whole self allying thing in the codex seems like GW's passive aggressive response to people playing 1999+1 games.

Besides Modeling I still don't understand why you would Replace the Bolt pistol with a Chainsword.

i've been busy with Tau so i still haven't read the SM codex all the way through, but don't they still need to clear up Grav weapons wounding models without an armor save?

No its pretty clear that its 6+ if they dont have an armour save.

Graviton: The roll needed To Wound when firing a grav weapon is always equal to the armour save of the target, to a minimum of 6+. Etc.

To me that is quite clear that you would need 6 to wound a target without an armour save.

I find it cool the the Skyspear Missile Launcher is guided by a dead Chapterserf inside the missile.

It's a cool looking model for sure. If it had interceptor people would be snapping it up.

The points cost isn't bad, chances are you're going to be able to use it against most lists with the propagation of Heldrakes, Necron croissants, flying MCs and since Skyfire also works against skimmers it's handy for the sheer amount of Wave Serpents everywhere.

So it looks like Grav weapons and these new tanks seem pretty well positioned against the metagame...  If only they could be taken in the same lists...  Hmm....

I'm interested in seeing if people can make it work.
