if the economy is bad, and everybody has less money, why is GW increasing their prices?

Because they are most likely not as badly affected in other countries. I think in the UK GW is practicly a house hold name when it comes to games.

People seem to always have money for gaming.  It is a distraction from the real world and it lasts.  Games (especially board but also miniatures) have a lasting appeal.  They can be reused ad naseum and still produce elation.  That is huge and usually worth the expenditure of funds.

QFT.

Also, the gaming industry typically does not work the same way as others. Many rules of business simply do not apply to companies like Games Workshop.

There could be a number of factors involved in their decision, but that seems like a reasonable assessment. Never forget that even though they make great games, they are a publicly traded company who's real business is making money.
