Event Summary:
When: Registration begins 6/19/13, and ends 6/29/13, event begins 7/2/13.

How Much: $20.00 Registration
How Do I Sign up: Fill out event registration sheet at Abington Battleground Games & Hobbies no later than 6/29/13.

Storms and Shadows is a Warhammer 40,000 campaign written specifically for the Battleground Games & Hobbies Abington community. Players will create an empire and battle other players for control of the Epsilon Majoris star system. As the campaign progresses the warp storm that had previously made the system inaccessible will continue to roll back and reveal more planets to vie for control of. Each planet is worth a certain percentage which will determine the reward in store credit the player will receive for holding that planet at the end of the campaign.

Better dust off those fliers because in addition to creating and moving standard Warhammer 40,000 armies around planets, players will also be able to build and move highly mobile Wing armies. These armies will consist of up to 500 points of Fliers and Flying Monstrous Creatures who are able to move quickly around planets, performing surgical raids, bombing runs and participating in high speed dogfights in the upper atmosphere. Don't have a flier in your codex yet? Not a problem, Storms and Shadows allows for any and all 40,000 approved Forge World units. Scratch builds and custom lists (such as the Death Korps of Krieg and Elysians) will be accepted with specific approval from Battleground Games & Hobbies.

It doesn't stop there though, Storms and Shadows features 10 planets in the Epsilon Majoris system. Players can build Starports and travel from planet to planet, making landfall to build new empires or being shot down under the combined weight of AA gun emplacements and enemy Wing armies. Additionally players will take part in scenarios, such as the storming of Enif Station to the final showdown to determine ownership of each planet in the solar system: The Hammer Blow.

All this and more awaits in Storms and Shadows, commissioned and written for Battleground Games & Hobbies. Registration opens today and closes June 29th with first turn sheets due before July 2nd. This 10 week campaign will run right up to the week of Labor Day. Only the first 20 entrants will receive a starting position on a planet, late entrants will have to make land fall. Registration is $20, with a registration form due at signing. We hope to see you all there!

The entire information manual will posted in this thread this coming Monday, 6/24/13.

Noooo that's right when my summer job starts/ when I'm gone for a month and a half. Cale, is it possible to sign up, no play for like, 4 weeks, then join in? I don't mind being in the over 20 people slot. Thanks! Dylan

Wish I had heard that this was happening.  I may have been able to drum up some interest... especially with some PV guys making the trek up to AB once in a while.

Also, I heard a vicious rumor that Ben Boulanger lives in Stoughton now (closer to AB than PV).  Too bad he works all the time.

I'm in.  ;D To All future challengers. I usually get Monday and Tuesday off from work to answer challenges. Otherwise i can get to BG after work (10:30pm) if the kind staff are willing to stay open late, which usually they do on Magic heavy nights.

This sounds awesome but abington is a bit too far for me to get to with any frequency.
Should the miserable Grot crews survive for long they will soon become deafened and have to resort to a rudimentary system of sign language. This is rarely successful as there are only so many signs a Grot can carry around with him.

Sounds like a lot of fun!  I can't be trusted to actually participate in anything that requires more than one day, but I am sure this will get people fired up in Abington!  I also can't wait to see the manual, I love creative endeavors like these.

As an aside, when you say scratch built flyers and the like, can you order just flying bases from GW? Just curious... And, are there any armies without access to any flyers, forge world or other?  Also, just curious...

I'm in, I'm excited, and I need to build a Caestus Ram :)

I believe other than Nids, who have FMCs, every army has access to a flyer somehow, even Sisters can take the Avenger strike fighter now.  The only exception to that is Space Wolves, although presumably they can take something from FW.
Too busy being AWESOME to listen to your whining.

For the flier part are allies acceptable?  Like Brad stated not all armies have access to flyers and not all people have access to FW.  Best way for a SW to get a flyer is allies...

Or just give SW access to the Storm raven or Storm talon... extra credit to whomever can paint the nose into a snarling wolf face...

Evening Gents,

For those of you who don't know me my name is Paul Wyatt and I'm the Designer behind Storms and Shadows. Over the next few weeks I'll be answering questions on this forum on behalf of Nick Hough who will be moderating this campaign. Now I've got a couple questions in the pipeline here so I'm going to get us caught up.

Noooo that's right when my summer job starts/ when I'm gone for a month and a half. Cale, is it possible to sign up, no play for like, 4 weeks, then join in? I don't mind being in the over 20 people slot. Thanks! Dylan

Hey Dylan, this isn't a problem. You don't have to worry about doing anything now. When you're back and ready to play you'll be throwing your name in as a late registrant. Make sure you talk to Nick Hough about getting a turn sheet and late registration sheet when you get back.

This was supposed to be starting later in the summer I thought? Oh well sign me up as Dark Eldar, I want a spot on Epsilon Nocturnis.

Unfortunately we did have to move the timeline up a bit. Make sure you go into Battlegrounds to register and sign up for Epsilon Nocturnis before it's full up. At the time of my writing, I know that one planet is already completely full.

As an aside, when you say scratch built flyers and the like, can you order just flying bases from GW? Just curious... And, are there any armies without access to any flyers, forge world or other?  Also, just curious...

Hi Nate, thanks for the interest. Unfortunately you can't just use stand in bases from GW to represent flyers. As with the Megabattle any scratch built models will have to be approved before their use, but scratch builds are welcome. Part of the reason for this is there are some scenarios where having specific line of sight to the flyer is required. For instance in the Dog Fight scenario there actually will be terrain that will affect flyer line of sight, such as floating debris, low orbiting asteroids and high weather formations. Because of this you'll need to have an accurately represented model in order to determine if there is clear or obscured line of sight.

As far as armies without flyers, there are none. The Space Wolves have access to two Forge World made fliers and Sisters of Battle have access to one. However we're not going to expect anyone to run out and buy 2 to 3 Forge World pieces and then have them express mailed to them. As such we've made some caveats for these two armies. Which references...

For the flier part are allies acceptable?  Like Brad stated not all armies have access to flyers and not all people have access to FW.  Best way for a SW to get a flyer is allies...

The caveat allows Space Wolves to use Storm Ravens in Wing armies only for purposes of Dog Fighting and Strafing Run scenarios. The same is true for Sisters of Battle, who may use any 40k approved Imperial Navy unit in their Wing armies. Now to further clarify, Space Wolves may not use Storm Ravens in any game, only in Wing armies. Think of this conceptually as the Space Wolves are closer and are getting backup from the fastest moving units from other allied chapters who couldn't be there in full force.

I hope this answers the questions everyone has up until this point. I'll be checking in periodically to continue to provide information and answers to questions anyone has. Remember, sign up early or you might lose the starting zone you want!
