Hey guys,

I posted this in general discussion but figured this is probably a better place for it.

My name is Rob. I am a brand new not even a week old card player. Looking to begin to attend events at your location but right now primarily looking to also meet other gamers and learn the ropes. I have been playing online periodically, but I rather play live. I did purchase the starter kit, so I have some built decks, but obviously they wont be up to standard to really compete. But for me that's fine, I rather play and get the experience and watch others play as well, and I am not above having someone sit with me and make recommendations, suggestions, and constructive criticism if some one is willing to do so.

Anyway I see you have a FNM this Thursday as well as a casual game day the following day. Which would be better for me to attend as a new player. Anyway I look forward to meeting and talking with the employee's and the MTG community surrounding it. Thanks in advance for your responses and see you all game day.

Robert

Hi Robert, I'm glad you found our message boards and are looking to join the community.

I'm Chase and I work at the Plainville location on most of the nights where "Magic" happens.

If you're looking to meet new players and gain some experience I highly recommend coming down at roughly 6:00pm on Friday nights before our Friday Night Magic tournament (FNM).  If you can't make it on Friday night, Monday nights around 6:00pm before out Draft tournaments are also a good bet.  There's usually quite a bit of casual Magic and playtesting going on at both of those times.

We look forward to meeting you!

Hey Chase,

Thanks for the info. I will definitely try and be there for 6pm. What format will be played? Standard or otherwise. See you Friday.

This Friday we will be playing Standard at FNM.  This weekend there's a very large team tournament in Providence so the crowd here is likely to be a bit smaller.

Hey Robert welcome,

If you come down this Friday try and make a 60 card minimum standard deck so you can play in FNM. If not that's fine just watch over some of the players and see how they interact, its very different from MTGO. you can also have people give you there thoughts on your deck. also if you have any rares for trade you can bring them and get cards you are looking for off of other people, and if you want to know what the price of a card is just pester Chase about it that's what he's there for.

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely have a deck built by Friday and will be there early enough for anyone who is willing to critique it to do so. As I mentioned, it isn't anything impressive, basic lands and majority of common/uncommon cards. However, I am going to get some booster packs today and see If I get anything that can improve the deck. I am definitely going to be trading whatever Rare/Myth's I know I wont be using, so you can count on me bringing them. =)

Learning to play is key for me, and as you mentioned, I figured MTGO is different, so definitely looking forward to playing a real game and getting some questioned answered on certain things like what some cards mean and such.

Hey Robert,

Not sure what you are looking for but I am a casual player and an avid drafter/sealed deck player.  I'm also pretty friendly and easygoing.  I used to teach Magic to newbies and can take you through basic and intermediate concepts at least before handing you over to the pros. ;)  I am also happy to get in a casual game here and there.

I suggest drafting - it helps you accumulate cards and see how they are used all at the same time.

Hey Rob,

My son Spencer and I are also new to Magic and just starting out, so we'd love to connect to play sometime. Are you going to Plainville regularly now?
