One of the problems here is that the law still probably isn't on GW's side, but it's kinda hard to protest it.  There's still a "fair use" exemption generally, but moreover, that fair use case is stronger because it's a leak.  It's "news" then.  Big papers and news channels show that kinda stuff all the time, a rumors blog is no different.  GW would have a much stronger case after the magazine came out.

It's not. The logic chain to follow is that GW is using DMCA to break smaller groups. Hence GW being a bully.

Also, I believe Sir_Prometheus is on to something as GW's claims may not actually be founded in reality.

Now just so we are all on the same page, the reason people have such concerns about DMCA is that it's a threat of a threat of legal action. You don't actually need to see a copyright violation to send a DMCA takedown request.

Intellectual property laws, generally, are just nutso at this stage.  It's gotten crazy enough, ironically, that I'm no longer all that worried about it, policy wise, as I kinda thing the whole structure is going to come crashing down, soon. 

But in the meantime, painful crap like this will occur. 

Honestly, both Faeit and Bols can just file a counter notice.  The real problem is this stuff can be used to take down whole sites (mostly cuz the hosts overeact) without any real justification.

My name is Mike, I'm not at the store very often, but when I do go I'm oddly enough spending more time buying models then actually playing the game.. hopefully that will change soon and I'll get to play more in the coming weeks.

And no I don't work for GW, I wasn't looking for a debate, I was just trying to offer a logical analysis for both sides. If someone was dumping on Privateer Press I'd defend them too, even though I don't even play Hordes.. I just don't think the whole pitchfork & torch method of criticism is very productive.

It's most likely because they don't want competitor's stealing ideas before the models actually hit shelves. I'm not a lawyer, but I read that anyone can legally copy GWs concepts and then turn around and sue GW for releasing their own model. In other words, if the model is only a picture and not yet released, then its fair game to copy.

It IS pretty horrible that I have to visit blog / rumor sites to have any idea what's coming up and what the models look like.  Otherwise I literally have to pay (by buying a White Dwarf) to see the new models and learn about them on time.
