Check out my LED lit Riptide.
« on: April 17, 2013, 10:26:18 AM »
Won't be painted by Saturday, but at least it's assembled, wires and all, which was NOT easy.  (with new CAD design, they make these out of way more compartments than they really have to.  There was a lot of drilling and running wires in odd ways)

Here's a video.

Pretty cool, I like the gun and the flashing light.

I saw this on kickstarter yesterday, looks like a nice little kit for anyone who wants to do LEDs and has little or no electrical knowledge. Hopefully it makes its goal

Thanks for the link, some people might find it useful, but I don't think I would really recommend a kit like that.  If nothing else, I think 3mm LEDs are too large, I used 1.8mm.  But the main challenge isn't soldering, it was drilling all the holes and running all the wires.

I dunno, I know how to solder, did so, but if you don't have a soldering iron you you can always twist and shrink wrap.

Thanks!  Like many projects like this that I get into my head to try (another good example was doing the complicated stripes on my Stormraven, took like 8 hours of taping with masking tape, easy) this was harder than I initially thought, and I'm mostly glad I didn't wind up seriously mucking up the model.

We're talking I could have easily assembled it in an evening, but instead, I wound up drilling snaking stuff for like a week.

What I'm saying is I'm glad I did it, but I wouldn't do it again if I bought a second one.

This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Plus I really hope that that kickstarter takes off!

What no high intensity lasers that can melt mini's in the main weapon? Pfft. Looks good. I'll be happy if i get the magnets in mine to work right so i can swap them out.

Oh, no the red ones in the gun will melt mini's.  Lesser mini's, that the Riptide looks down upon, with contempt.

Na, Tau pitty. Sad that they don't see the greater good but no hesitation to blowing them to gibby bits.
