Jim, I was wrong about you. Now that you have called me intelligent and implied I get laid all time, I am 100% on your side.

I do realize there are legit reason why some people don't play with painted armies...but it seems to be a vast majority. I would like to see more encouragement to play with painted armies on a regular basis...or introduce a new pre-painted mini game to the store. It just looks better and encourages onlookers on the fence to jump in instead of sitting on the site or playing non-miniature games...even good ones like Magic.

I know this is a GW related thread but I do know the WM league gives tons of points for painting which to me is positive encouragement. Besides "official" encouragement like that and having the community give some positive peer pressure, I'm not sure what else could be asked for.

Children yet, the tale to hear, Eager eye and willing ear, Lovingly shall nestle near.  In a Wonderland they lie, Dreaming as the days go by, Dreaming as the summers die: Ever drifting down the stream --Lingering in the golden gleam --Life, what is it but a dream?

Brad, I agree with you completely except the part that up till now I was trolling. Now I am blatently trolling because I know most of you have never touched a naked woman without paying for it in advance.

This isn't even good trolling.  I don't give a flying .... what you say about me, but come on, at least make it clever.  It's like an unpainted troll army.   ::)

I think that is part of the problem..no way to enforce painting..so some people will just refuse to paint, and yes again I realize there are legit reason not to have a painted army...but it seems like a majority...would just like to see the community put a little pressure onto that part of the hobby for everyday play to attract more players...again, a fully painted star wars miniature game (not the pre-painted one) is what got me to look at miniature games.

Joker and Sprocket im just having some fun..

As for the painting alot of people have different reasons for painting or not painting.  I did like the idea of having 1 event planned MONTHS ahead with a paitning requirement as it is always good to play other painted armies.

The problem with that is logistics and encouraging people to play in tournies.  Chase doesnt want to hinder ANYONE from playing in a tourny and I agree with this philiosphy.  Thats why I love playing in GT's so much as everyone is held to a different standard then a local tourny.  If anyone want info on GT's or even just wants to go to one give me a ring i'd be more then happy to hang out give info etc...

Tournies are the one place I think it should be enforced to paint..again, three color rule. That way there is a little pressure but not mandatory pressure to paint...again, I see fully painted armies, even three color ones, as a good thing for the hobby in general as a way to attract more players...and it adds another level to compete in.

I can't speak for all members of the community, I can only say that the people I play with do encourage painting. Lots of friendly jabs to get people painting. It seems like it works for the WM community and the few people I really know who play 40k.

I know the first thing that made me get my WM army fully painted and based was the hardcore tournament. Since it was an actual requirement to participate, it provided the motivation to get it done. The megabattles' painting requirement was something else that really got me to have fully painted chaos and space marine armies.

Maybe organize events that require painting.  A 40k version of Warmachine's Hardcore tournament.

I think Chase said he was going to start having qualifier events for the next invitational around June time frame. I remember it being discussed just before last invitational about having a painting requirement and perhaps it being something we could institute for next years event.

As Chris pointed out people really need a lot of lead time for a painting required event so if BGs intention for the next invitational is to be painting required then an annoucement when these qualifiers start would give everyone at least 6 months notice

First of all J0kerr, thank you for posting an actual view on the issue, you're doing much better than Jim.  I obviously can't speak for everyone, but to me, seeing armies like those painted by Chris Scotti, or John Walsh, Bill Souza, any number of excellent painters and players, I think there IS pressure to get one's models painted.  That said, not everyone is interested in playing.  It is but one of multiple parts of the hobby.  I know people, for example, who don't play.  Whether we like it or not, we have to be inclusive of everyone in the community, and of their way of enjoying the hobby, or eventually there will be no community.  I agree that it would be good for armies to be painted, but I think that it's best for the group to realize that 40k is different things for different people.
