I just started getting into Warhammer 40K myself (aah! A n00b! lol), but one of the things that got me interested in the game was the idea that I could be creative with how I painted my models. Not that I would paint my necrons bright purple or something, but the fact that I *could* if I wanted to is kinda nice.

Yeah, I could've gone w/ a much cheaper game (and there are several available) - but I wanted to do a game that not only has more than a couple people playing it, but also lets you be creative in the design (how you pose your models, construct them, AND paint them)

I don't think he is trolling - it's okay to disagree with him, that's the point of a discussion. But trolling isn't JUST posting an idea you disagree with, it's making points that don't make ANY sense/have NO logic OR truth, JUST for the point of ticking people off. He's clearly not *JUST* trying to tick people off, he's just trying to figure out why people would spend the money for the Warhammer game (b/c it's not cheap) and then not use it to its full potential.

So you paint your army then? or don't paint it? I have an army I have been working on for 2 months..and have not gotten to play..and yes its time and effort. It allows me to be creative so I use it.

That is awesome that you are working it that way, but the way you do it is not for everyone.  There are no REQUIREMENTS except for GTs and certain events, which means regardless of your view on aesthetics, people can do what they please until told otherwise.

Alienating a community before you really become part of it is a pro move I hear

What is bothering me now is i am working on having a discussion about something that some players view as a turn off to the hobby and instead of talking and reaching an understanding, some people..not all..just want to kick the new guy...try talking and discussing and exchanging ideas...I am.

If you dont agree with me I wont be your friend!
Stop trying to derail the thread.

You two should have stopped by the doubles tournament as pretty much almost everyone was painted or very obviously almost fully painted and based.

I would love to see that....are you saying only tournaments have a majority of painted models at the store? No other time?

.....I never said it *was* for everyone... just saying that's how *I* roll, lol. I'm not trying to alienate myself, just trying to add to the conversation with an opinion as logically as I can. But if you completely shun me *JUST* because I disagree with you, well... it's not huge amount of skin off my nose, lol. Just looking for people to keep an open mind.

I am not trying to kick the new guy.  Hell Dylan is a new guy and he is pretty cool.

The point I am trying to make is that if you are trying to become part of something, instead of borderline insulting them saying they are not doing it right, you might want to be a part of it and start a painting night or classes and effect the hobby community in general.

As for tourney painted armies, you will see at the GT's armies painted (required).  Most BG tournies have a mixed bag, I only "finished" my army up in time for TC.  Most of the time you will see the people going for the paint scores with awesome armies, people who have armies for a while and have finished, works in progress and those that just want to play.  I for one when trying out new things dont go straight to painting, but that is how I hobby.  I want to see what works before I invest huge amount of time/effort into painting something that I know that does not work.

This thread is toxic and a distraction to the rest of the BG threads.

Umm....no. Please don't accuse me of things that you are clearly wrong about. I am just discussing. Not trolling.

Is there a way to check Ip addresses...would like to clear my name which is going to be dragged in the mud by this guy.

Dear Joker:

Well, let's picture the tournament as "the big day".

Most people, as mentioned prior, work toward tournaments and other events. Why? I don't know maybe it has to do with people working well with preset deadlines.  I know that's how I tend to work.

Leading to the event people will try new models which can mean just purchased and assembled that day. Of course, it could also mean any other reason it's not painted. The most plausible reason is that people are trying out units and configurations and once they have it lined up, they start to paint it. As everyone seems to agree, painting takes effort and wasted effort is never welcome.

Now some of us, do have a personal pride in having things painted. I am now refusing to play with models that are not painted in WM. This happens to be fine as I have all the basics of my army covered but it really gives me motivation to keep painting. To each his / her own though and people must remember that.

Also, something that is pretty funny about this thread: A player I know, who is a better painter than anyone in this thread, is running a new army and is all bare metal and plastic for now.  Based on the poor observation skills and conclusion jumping, he is lazy. In reality, he is just getting his force assembled and then will mass paint them shortly to a higher standard than most hobbyist could hope for.

To JimLeary:
