I think this is probably a good move on their part.  It'll help to build a community around their stores and likely decrease the giant "bitching channel" that I'm sure their original FB page was.

From the standpoint of a competitor, I'm not thrilled about the change.  ;)

Well, that's the thing I disagree. You're right that the probably shut it down because it was a giant bitch-fest. But deleting the page isn't the answer, that's really just a rage quit. The appropriate way to handle it would be to, y'know, get your customers to complain about you less by making them happier.

On twitter, especially, none of that goes away, it isn't even harder to find. And I seriously doubt individual stores are going to manage it any better. Heck, here in the states they barely have any stores.

I think generally speaking, GW needs a whole bunch of better plans. This jus a hilarious symptom.

If anyone remembers GW used to have their own official forums on their website for a while, but in 2006 they shut them down. I think it's a good move, the company doesn't need a public nerd rage fest to deter any new gamers from joining the hobby, especially since all the people that freak out do so for no logical reason anyway.

My understanding was they shut them down because basically no one used them, they were all using DakkaDakka or Warseer.  Which is frankly a horrible sign.

The hottest forums for Warmachine is (again, as I understand not, not really a frequent player) on PP's website.  And if you have a rules problem (which are actually hard to find with PP stuff) and you post it there, you can get an actual answer, by an actual adult who works for the company.  Whoa.

Think about it.  With a properly moderated OFFICIAL forum, rules debates could be unnecessary.  But that was apparently too much for them.

I agree with Chase moving it to the stores and not a central page was a very good move on their part.  Good thing Chase the closest GW is like 300 miles away.

Hell, a GW store could move in next door to me and still not get my business. I've heard they are notoriously unfriendly and flat out don't allow you to play if you have scratch built or non GW models in your army.

I work for a company that helps big companies with their Social Media strategies.  Not that I'm an expert myself, I just sell the software.  But everything I know about the industry says this is a pretty horrible mistake.  Nothing wrong with having individual store pages and accounts in addition to the main page, but abandoning the main brand's page is pretty much unthinkable.

It's retreat, abandoning the field.

the GW stores vary really... the one that used to be Harvard square had a great staff and friendly, they only didnt let you play if scratch built or non GW if it was official tournaments, the one in the liberty tree Mall (the last to close in mass) was even more flexible... the other in westfield (i believe) i only visited once but it was inside a mall in like a closest and didn't have room for more than a single table

I think in truth it was a better move for GW to delete the FB page and let this recent shit storm blow over cause they would post great preview pics and the comments would just be 5 pages of bitching and nothing about the picture that was posted

I find when people unable to act properly (GW) rage quit to be very theraputic for the person causing the raging.

I would like to think that asking GW about why they hired someone who wouldn't pass a CORI check helped get this passed.

Yup.  No interest in a GW store moving in around here other than to create interest.  There are things we can do that they couldn't, we could steal their good ideas, and we could potentially steal some of their customers.

Still, not interested them coming around here.  When my GW reps tells me that BG is one of his top accounts it scares me because I know they're looking at that shit.  Fortunately they had 4 or 5 stores fail in MA years ago.

Hell, a GW store could move in next door to me and still not get my business. I've heard they are notoriously unfriendly and flat out don't allow you to play if you have scratch built or non GW models in your army.

:)  Thanks, Jason!

Wait until 3D printers are available to the general public and people start printing their own models.

I've seen some stuff printed out before and vehicles, dreads and such come out decent but very blocky. I can't imagine them being able to do tiny arms and hands and guns but i imagine the technology will advance to that point some day.
