Thou doth protest too much. Its man dollies dude. Relax
Are you still whining?
Honestly, I think your whining over nothing. I highly doubt that someone is going to walk in to BG with a White Scars army of Jetbikes, or even a Primarch. For all we know, no-one could bring ANY HH models.
So he has a standard?  Oh to be british "Oh why hello I'd like to save you a bunch on car insurance you big jerk you."  So much control, such elegance.  I think we can all learn something from today.

You see, there are kids who play 40k and don't listen to their parents when they say "gee kiddo those say ages 14 and up on it"  and just play, then they get upset when the adults bring things from over seas that have melta cannons for a grand when they just spent their whole allowance on a new flyer.  So as the adults here, lets all just calm down, have some tea, and then take that lil tugger "sir prometheus" for a big boy sundae at dairy queen, but no chocolate sauce, or he'll be bouncing up and down the walls tonight.

On another note, this event looks pretty cool.  Just throwing it out there... neat stuff.

Why is it that the average "hobbyist" or "fluffy" gamers seem to get much more upset when challenged on some tenet they hold dear than those they accuse of being "Win At All Costs" gamers?

Seriously, my objection was only that Horus Heresy is a completely different game, and not meant to be mixed with normal 40k.  I feel that point is quite clear, but I no longer want to contest you folks on it, because obviously you all care more than I do, and I hear from Chase that a few folks have full HH armies, and that's a work of passion that should get air time at some point.  If I come, I'll be bringing my Shas'O Rymr model, who is probably overpriced, but I want to see actually get used as himself.

But now I'm pissed off, riled even, that so many of you saw fit to cause such a shit-storm, call me whiner, say it was obviously not my event, and a "lil tugger" (I suppose that is a variation on "wanker"?)  I'll argue that it was not I who made it such a big deal, you all were.

You were trying make someone feel ashamed for bringing up what I think is a perfectly reasonable objection.  Maybe you don't think it's a reasonable objection --though I really can't see how--, but so what?  It's still just an objection.  I didn't call any of you names, say your ideas were stupid, or that maybe you should play with "the real rules" of 40k or something obnoxious like that.

It entered this group beat-down peer pressure dynamic.  I'm a little too old and a little too thick skinned to be really upset by that sort of thing, but I still think that's pretty sucky.

I think the main thing Matt, is that the Abington community has decided to organize an event for any and all.  They've chosen the direction they want to go, you voiced some objections to certain parts of it.  They responded.  At this point, let it go.  Decide to go to their event and have fun, or don't due to your objections.  Every event isn't for everyone.

I for one like seeing FW stuff included.  I might actually get working on my eldar!

Let's let it go.

People have voiced opinions.  They've been heard.  Everything seems clear at this point.

Hey Chase,
it may have been lost amongst the debris, but Mike brought up an interesting point regarding the FW unique selections. Can we modify that for FW troop choices if one is bringing a FW list? or is there a dynamic there I'm missing?  (See previous notes for more...)

Cheers,
Alan

This isn't really an issue, but say you adhere to a formula like this:

1 hq
2 troop
0-1 fast, heavy, elite
no fortifications

For the purpose of choosing an org chart from the OP (given the reality that partners drop, etc) can you email the list as "open" or something, letting whoever checks the list know that its whatever chart your partner decides on?

That made pretty little sense, but its just so people like that can get an email to you without waiting on their teammate to email you feb 15th at 11:59 pm, and for the case of people who sign up and their partner bails.

You're right, I'm not exactly sure what you're saying.

I'd much prefer NOT to get an email with an incomplete list just to get another email later on that finishes it.  It's a pain to keep track of and then requires cross referencing emails...  I'd rather not deal with that.

I'd suggest you just keep the list like that and change it as your partner changes.

Or, you know, lock down a non-flaky partner.  ;)

The reason why the restriction is in there was to limit FW stuff in a particularly competitive setting.  It was in place for fluff reasons and to cut down on potentially abusive units / combos. The rule set I based this event off of does NOT allow FW lists or Horus Heresy ANYTHING.

When I decided to allow the FW lists and Horus Heresy stuff I did consider that the 0-1 restriction might be very limiting, but I figured it might help to quell any complaints people might have about allowing them in the first place.  A bit of a handicap, if you will.  It was also a safeguard in the instance that a particular FW troop / unit was very good, especially when spammed.

I'll be the first to admit I know next to nothing about FW and HH stuff, outside of what I hear from the players that own the armies (and it's largely that they're worse than codex lists / models).

With all that said, I never intended to make it impossible for people to field a legal list.

I will change the restriction on FW / HH troops.  The point of this event is to allow people to field the "army" that they'd like.  I'm less concerned with balance and more concerned with allowing people the opportunity to play with stuff they'd never get to otherwise.

I will also clarify that people CAN take HQ choices that aren't normally allowed until you have 1500+ points (like some of the Tau and Templar HQs).  That rule is ancient and I don't think it's necessary.

I'll edit it later tonight.

Steve, Pro tip- a lot of people from the Abington 40K-ers aren't on the forums, show up to the store for like 5-10 mins on Thursdays or the weekend, and then put out the question. Or even Facebook, you'll get a better response through there.
