All the command squads are locked at the minimum size of the equivalent unit.  Power armor, 5 models, Terminators, 5 models, bikes, 3 models.

I think it's a little unfortunate, but it is probably what they intended.

I still see a use for 3 RW command just behind a few units of regular RW bikers (the TL boltguns of which the Salvo would certainly affect) with the Devastation banner laying down ridiculous amounts of fire.

That picture on the page through me off is all, but yeah 3 man squad is effective. add a libby on bike or techmarine on bike or both. Give one of the HQ's a power field generator for some survivability.

I have another question though, Ravenwing Command squad only has 3 bikers, however on page 96 under the entry. It clearly shows 5 bikers, one looks to be a champion of caliban upgrade, apothecary upgrade, banner carrier, and then a grenade launcher on a 4th one. The 5th one looks to be holding a corvus hammer. The only way to get 5 bikers in a command squad would be adding a libby and a techmarine on bike. In the picture, none of those look like a Libby or techmarine to me.

Deathwing can have 5 models. Do you Think Ravenwing command is gonna get an FAQ? or just fail entry/picture combo by GW.

Sadly Picture fail seems responsible, looks like a couple of units all mixed together it did get my hopes up though!

Once im finished with other projects on my work bench I plan on making a Deathwing force since I cleared room for it. Doing some internet trolling I keep getting mixed opinions especily when Math Hammer comes in play. Probably cause the book is so new.

Eevry one agrees to take Belial as standard. The things that no one can seem to agree on is:

A: How many Deathwing units? which heavy wepaons? Chain fists or no?

B: Take a Chaplain termie or a Librarian termie, once decided, how to format it?

C: command squad or knights? If command squad whats their load out? apothicary or no? apothicary has no close combat weapon.

D: 1000 Pts 1 Land Raider Crusader for every edditional 500 take another. or Deep strike the whole thing and hope for the best?

I'm sure you'll find an army list somewhere on the internet.

Umm, no.  I'd much rather have stupid mobile bike troops than termie troops.

Also, Sammael is awesome.

ive started to flush out a list and i guess its a double wing list with Belial as the leader. I didnt take either a chaplain or a Librarian on the list. Oh well its going to be a while before I can buy the stuff and test the list out

I think this Codex did what the CSM codex was trying to do and that is get away (very far away) from mandatory units and mono lists. CSM to me is a very undefinable army to compose because everything feels very mediocre for what you pay minus the helldrakes.

I like the direction this codex leads me to feel 6th is going and that is a wide diversity of effective armies. Now this may put Stelek out of business but I like it and its clearly good for the game as 6th edition has been in general. Unfortunately to me this codex also exposes how CSM missed the mark with its point costings vs what you get in unit effectiveness.

As for DA:

The book is very diverse and solid, yet at its core its still a space marine book and should have units very cut n dry similar to vanilla marines as it does but with some very DA flare and flavor. The "wing" units are awesome yet not broken (at first thoughts) but show immense promise for epic games and epic theatrical moments on the table (as GWs design philosophy apparently desires and intends). Book contains solid multiple options at every force org slot.

My gripes are the fliers are utter trash in comparison to whats out there and the dance dance revolution speeder is slotted as a heavy with all the armor and HP of a meek 50pt speeder and insanely over costed.

I think DA may become "the" foot marine army with solid HQs and banners and some tricky special wargears and loads of cheap durable bodies. Clearly the Deathwing have tons more viable shooting options but you have less 3++ to fail and hate your dice so its a fair trade off.

Ahh and lastly my precious Ravenwing! Hopefully I will show you all the power of the "Angels of Death Motorcycle Club" soon oh very soon.

I think Ravenwing are awesome and are exactly how they should be. Fast and elite with firepower to match their costs. Hoping playing them makes me a much better player as every inch counts and every loss hurts.

Oh and also dont hate the person with the balls to run a 5 land speeder squad thats hiding a dark shroud zipping around with improved jink saves blasting 5 heavy bolters and 10 missles at you a turn. Just sayin =)

You forgot to mention all-guns, no assault, because "40k is a shooting game" (read: "I only play on tables with no LOS-blocking terrain, and I pretend that's a universal state of affairs").

Here's his latest blog post.

So with the CSM faq upon us, I figured I might as well look at a new list.

It’s based around air superiority and some ‘oh shit’ moments for your opponent.

Lots of annoying blasts too.

If you read this, how can this be improved by C:CD?

It's like the man has no idea how NOT to spam.

And he'll dry brush those poor helldrakes 3 different colors (envision tie-die....it's not much different than grey plastic, except, y'know, there's technically 3 colors on it) and call 'em done.
