Played 6th much?  They're pretty nasty.

Some people here have had a lot of success with them.

6th is a shooting edition. Tau excel at shooting. Hmm...

Yeah, Matt Bennett (Sir_Prometheus on these boards) placed 3rd at Feast of Blades with Tau + GK allies.

List looked pretty cool.

John Walsh won back-to-back events with Tau. There was a Game On tournament and then within two weeks he won the Minvitational, IIRC.

Now that he's discovered Space Wolves, it's becoming a bit ridiculous.

In all honestly, all armies in 6th are a lot more balanced, 6th ed kinda did a fine job of that.

For Tau, Firewarriors with 30" rapidfire str5 is pretty good.  Not great, but certainly not bad.  Hovertanks with 3+ cover is pretty awesome.  Putting Broadsides in a Bastion works pretty great.

Tau are actually pretty bad ass.  Don't underestimate the little guys.  They'll fry you quick!

 Marker-lights. They suck.

Except against those with faith!  ;D   ;)

Oh, do the sisters have power that makes you roll one to pen, every turn, for 4 turns?

That's a pretty good power, yo.

So if someone prints out the "latest" rules from White Dwarf, how do you know they are real? In date? Etc.

Doesn't this place people on uneven playing fields?

"Hey, I have a great strategy." "Nope, you didn't have all the rules since you missed the latest WD."

Great for marketing, horrible for players.

Well, yes, the downside is that you more or less have to have a subscription to white dwarf to know what "current" is.  It's pretty shameless on GW's part, same as forcing everyone to buy hardcover codex's, when I think basically no one wants them, especially for day to day use.  (or, you can undertake certain form's of copyright infringement, because frankly, screw GW)

On the upside, it does mean that armies don't go nearly as long without at least some love from GW.  It means that White Dwarf is more than just an advertisement GW somehow tricked you into paying for.  (it's still that, too)

You seem to worry about a number of fairly unrealistic scenarios. If this is a legitimate concern, I'd look at playing with different people.

Just pointing out how bad an idea it is for the gamers....for GW it is smart...but they players all the time.

The hardcover Codex thing really pisses me off, guys.  The WD thing seems minor by comparison.  I'd much rather it have have-to-have rules than be the glossy waste of space it was.

Edited / got rid of a couple things.

I very much appreciate people sticking up for the store, so thanks.

Also, if we can keep the discussion AWAY from where it went there for a minute, that would be cool.  The store being a store and all.  ;)
