500 pt list discussion
« on: December 27, 2012, 09:29:10 PM »
Now that we have debated, torn apart, glued together, disemboweled, then took what was left and dissected the 500 point format down to the goo on the bottom of a necron foot-slugger; we should talk about the army lists. Building lists at this point level is a science, a beautiful mad science that not everyone has had the pleasure to experience. What does the cron player bring? 500 points of flyers, wraiths and bugs (with really only 2x 5 man troop squads. Should a Space Marine player dump the points into a landraider? The novice, hobbyist, and experienced players all have questions and answers at the point bracket.  I would love to see this form light up with the fires of passion as we explore the army list at the 500 point level.

Well, the 500 point thread includes lists. I know people probably don't want to sift through almost 30 pages, but there's some great list theory in there from last year. And that said, almost none of it got put to practice, as everyone kept their secrets to themselves.

Pro tip: don't put 300 points into one model.

Pretty easy stuff really, same as any point value but now add skirmish game mechanics into it:

1.  You NEED an efficiently costed troop choice, even if you only do 2 units, make them flexible and be able to trade well with other troop slots.

2.  Someone will bring Draigo, someone will bring a flier.  If you have no answer, you're doing something wrong.

3.  The more models you have to trade X for one wound, the better.

4.  Cap a single choice to 125 so you have at least 4 choices of board presence.

5.  Gimmicks don't win events.

A certain someone has all the lists from last year's event.

Maybe I'll post a few tomorrow night if things get quiet around the store.  I have a feeling lists will look a lot different this time around.

I'm sure it comes as no surprise that IG did particularly well last year... But that was 5th edition.  Will 6th edition changes things up a bit?  I think so...

Even I can think of a few massive threats that players should be prepared to deal with.  I'm very interested in how this whole thing goes.

Also, we've got at least two people coming down from Canada to play this time.  I wonder what they'll bring!

Now I'm just spamming but this is a blast. This list is fragile with troops but who cares when you have a teleporting unit of spyders that cannot be pinned down in CC?

Total Roster Cost: 495

HQ: Space Marine Captain in Power Armour (1#, 165 pts)
1 Space Marine Captain in Power Armour, 165 pts = (base cost 100) + Space Marine Bike 35 + Relic Blade x1 30

Troops: Space Marine Bike Squad (5#, 165 pts)
   3 Space Marine Bike Squad, 85 pts = 3 * 25 (base cost 25) + Meltagun x1 10
      1 Attack Bike, 40 pts
      1 Sergeant, 40 pts

Troops: Space Marine Bike Squad (5#, 165 pts)
   3 Space Marine Bike Squad, 75 pts = 3 * 25
      1 Attack Bike, 50 pts = (base cost 40) + Multi-melta 10
      1 Sergeant, 40 pts

What I ended up bringing to the last 500 point Tournament NateT. Did well outside of some bad rolls Tabled 2 opponents in my Bracket.

I ride in on my Bike with my Hat of awesome and say Nay this place should be on fire.

I feel like there's got to be a decent list out there with that new Chaos Dragon flyer thing.  Doesn't that guy just fry power armor for a living?  I have no idea what it costs, but I have reason to believe people are afraid of it.

What about a Chaos Demon list with the new, crazy flamers that people like to complain about these days?

In fact, all I've heard people complain about recently is how good dropping a flame template of some kind on things is in 6th.  That seems like a good thing.

I'm pretty sure 2 squads of Plaguebearers, a winged Daemon Prince and as many Flamers as possible would be a legit list.
