Cover for Monstrous Creatures

Quick question about cover....

If you shoot through an enemy squad (termageants) at a squad behind them (tyranid warriors) the squad behind gets a 5+ cover save.

So what if you are shooting at a Tervigon (Monstrous Creature) behind a enemy squad of Termageants? Does the Tervigon get the 5+ cover save?

The answer is no.  Because the termagents do not cover up to or more then 25% of the MC.  MC use true line of sight just like vehicles.

Just because I need it...where in the rulebook does it say that? What rules specifically are you quoting? Or can I get a GW ref to back it up?

This says that they would receive a cover save since they are treated like infantry now in 6th. Does any official GW judge frequent these forum?

they are not treated like infantry now.  Cover now works the same for everyone.

Does the model that was assigned a wound have 25% or more obscured from view?

If yes, you get a cover save(most often a 5+).

If no, you get either armor or invulnerable only.

What about where the rulebook says that if shooting unit A, has to shoot through unit B, then Unit C gets a 5+ cover say...does this hold true no matter the units involved? Such as ripper swarms in front of a Tervigon?

This is really the base of the question and when challenged I need to provide a very clear answer from the rulebook, a GW judge, or FAQ.

So after reading the rulebook and reading several forums, it does appear that MC can hid behind any troop choice and receive a 5+ save as long as there is a unit in between the MC and the shooting unit.

Page 18, Intervening Models and the rule is clear.

"If a target is partially hidden from the firer's view by models from a third unit (models not from the firer's unit or from the target unit), it receives a 5+ cover save in the same way as if it was behind terrain."

A Monstrous Creatures is granted a 5+ cover save if it is 25% obscured by terrain. So then, we determine if the MC is 25% obscured by the intervening unit. If yes, then 5+ cover save. If no, then no cover save.

To me it means that the MC gets the 5+, but it is like a cover save, so the creature must choose its armor or the cover save. No mention of percentages are in the quote.

So unless GW clarifies, that is how I will play. Does the store hold GW sanctioned tournaments? What happened in the last tournament at the store using 6th E rules?

You're not applying the whole sentence. "... as if it were in was behind terrain." The MC doesn't get to dip his toe behind a wall and get a cover save, and he doesn't get to hide a toe behind one model for a cover save.

The store does not hold GW sanctioned tournaments because the store gets nothing for subjecting its loyal patrons to those wretched, abominable events.

At the last tournament with 6th Edition rules, three people were killed in a dispute over the transport rules that swept across multiple tables. But the store hushed that up, and we were sworn never to speak of it again. On lonely Thursday nights, if you listen closely, you can still hear the screams in the envelopes of silence between dice rolls.
