Well it would be more complicated under the allies system, for one thing.  If I play around 1100 points of Black templars, but I ally in around 900 points of Grey knights, the comp system would have to figure out how much of a discount I'm getting (if any).
Name:  Matthew Forsyth
Club:  Errybody in the gettin tips
Where I play: basically I only show up for tourneys or when I'm on my way up to New Hampshire to visit my folks.  I live about 45 mins from both stores, to the south.

i think with 6th only being out for such a short time how is it really know how much to restrict. also allies makes it more even for everyone. where one army may be lacking you could ally another one to help with this.

That's true I totally forgot to factor in allies lol, I guess some ally combos will be more viable then others.

any race is allowed to take fortifications. I thought the Quad cannon and the Icarus Las Cannon have auto fire so they dont need to be manned? If thats the case than I would take the opritunity to make some cool organic Tyrinid Baricades and a Quad gun using Vennom Cannon bits it would look sweet.

Im sorry if i seemed harsh but im tired of hearing "oh flyers are over powered" In the mega battle i brought 6 and every one was shot down by other fliers or anti air craft weapons like the flak guns. Its easier than you think to deal with Fliers and when some Codecies get re-printed they will have more ground to air weapons with the sky fire rule.

Fantasy does do a pretty good job, though the best books typically remain the best.  Fantasy also has a harder time with balance as certain armies do not have much of a ranged threat and have to engage.

I don't see why that matters, Beastmen and Daemons are both heavy CC armies but they are on the opposite end of the power spectrum. Beastmen get to use an extra 200 points to balance, and Daemons get unit and magic item restrictions to balance.

I know Fantasy does a good job, thats why I asked why they can't do it for 40k.

Demons are faster, don't have LD issues, can take any/all magic lores, and are more durable, and have invunerable saves, as opposed to NO saves.

You misread my statement, I was simply saying that both armies need to engage the enemy.. but they are also on different ends of the power spectrum. I wasn't arguing the points bonus or army restrictions.

The main reason why they dont do it is because the 40k and Fantasy mindests are COMPLETELY different.  Where the fantasy population has taken it upon themselves to change the game 40k players do not have that drive as a whole.

It all comes down to the personalities of the gaming population.

Pretty much this.

Players who want to play in tournaments with comp rules will likely play in tournaments without comp rules. Players who want to play in tournaments without comp rules will likely not play in tournaments with comp rules.

We choose the more inclusive option. It also happens to be the easier of the two as well, in terms of making up rules and arguing about them. :)

in terms of Comp thats something that has gone down the toilet. Far to often do i see lists that abuse special abilities of armies in tournaments. When I played Tournaments the winner was the best Sport, Had a good winning streak, and a fully painted and balanced army. This usualy was judged when more than 50% of the points were dumped into troop choices.

Now its very cut throat and people whine so much i see the WHAAAABulance go by gaming stores on a regular basis. Im tired of hearing people complain and moan about petty stuff. "oh I cant deal with fliers they are to over powered." To Quote Warmahordes Play Like You Got a Pair, but thats no excuse to be a jerk.  If you enter a tourney with a list of 3+ fliers you deserve to get your arse throughly kicked. Back in the day taking that many fliers was like taking the best unit each codex presented like Terminators for Marines, Wraithlords for Eldar A really decked out Deamon Prince that can ignore all saves etc. I find it difficult to beleive that fliers are really that bad of a game changer. Sorry thats just my opinion I think every one has a means to deal with them and banning them out right is just dumb.

or the use of forgeworld units now. Just because everyone thinks they are so expensive without realizing that gw prices have gone up significantly and are comparable to fw prices. upgrades to exsisting plastic kits are not really anything more than about 5 10 bucks.

I never suggested banning them, just that not everyone has effective means of dealing with them.  You can "think" that everyone does, but that doesn't mean anything at all.

I suggest going back to the old school way of looking at comp. Is the army fun to play? Is it more than 50% troops? That will ruin comp scores for players who decide to bring to many fliers. Comp scores need to play a big deal again in tourneys. Like i said you didnt win 1st place if you just won every game you had to have a decent comp score and sportsmanship score too. The Ard boyz has dominated to much of the tournament venue and has changed the way they should play. I think they need to go back to the way they were done.

I don't think we need a "50% troop rule" because troops are already needed for scoring. The game already punishes people who take few troops.

boo hiss. no comp. it's an impeding factor. warhammer 40k has set rules to determine things and comp isn't one of them. there is a force org chart for a reason and that is all the comp there needs to be.

What's impeding about it, reading like 4 sentences?
