Star Wars X-Wing miniatures game
« on: September 24, 2012, 11:40:15 PM »
I just finished reading the rules :)
I'll be around Wednesday at Abington looking for people to play.  I suggest getting the boxed set and one or two extra mini's, it's definitely worth it.

I would love to learn how to play, and am interested in picking up a box.

Played a couple of games and it has prospects for a great game.  Now we should get a group together to set up some team games.

Just checked out the video tutorial on the website

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/media/XWingFlash/xwing_tutorial.html

Looks pretty interesting, I've been meaning to swing by Plainville on a Tuesday to check out Firestorm Armada because i was thinking about getting into that. This seems like a nice easy to learn game with little start up involved.

Already want the Millennium Falcon expansion to come out lol

Thats pretty much the whole rules, except for special things like when bases touch etc.  But it is that fast and easy to learn.

I think it would be cool to have 4 players, two teams of two with 50 points each.

At the 50 point value it looks like that's about two X-Wings, or three-four of a cheaper ship like a TIE or maybe an A-wing. A pretty cheap buy-in with the core game being 40ish and expansion ships being 10ish i believe.

I'm going to pick up a core set and try to get a game, maybe after this 1850 tourney is over

The Millennium falcon expansions looks like it has new rules for larger ships and turrets and such

After reading up, I'm thinking 100 points/player.  More ships=more awesome!

Agreed, i'm an X-wing fan (who isn't) and at 50 points it would be 2 bare bones with no upgrades

So I had this idea about doing The Death Star Trench Battle from Star Wars.  I just need to build 10 tower guns.

I think the tower guns should be 10 points each for 100 points of tower guns.  Then the imperials would have another 100 points of fighters.

The towers would be square, about the same size as a fighter base.  There would have to be a tower phase between the planning and activation phases.  During that phase the towers can turn 90 degrees if they desire.  The stats on the towers would be 4 hull points, no shields but if shot at, they can not dodge.  The cannons would be 3 attack dice at range 1, 4 attack dice at range 2, and 5 attack dice at range 3.  And of course once placed at the beginning of the game they do not move.

The Rebels would have 200 points of fighters.

Then I would need to model the trench.  It should be wide enough to fit 3 fighters across, with maybe a little wiggle room.  Once in the trench, you cannot be targeted by ships nor turrets outside of the trench.  (I know, in the movie Han Solo shot a ship from the Millennium Falcon from outside, but lets just have a straight fight without the "deus ex machina.") In order to hit the exhaust port you need to enter the trench at a certain point (the beginning).  Once inside, there are no more curved maneuver templates, just straight ones.  I think we can assume that you are maneuvering so as not to hit the walls.  Only one gun turret can be placed inside the trench, and it is not an obstacle (you don't have to worry about crashing into it.)   Also only a proton torpedo can hit the port.  it takes 3 * to be called a hit.  So I think you may want to "focus".

There should also be a time limit for the game, I'm not sure how long.  I figure a trip down the trench should be at least 4 turns, in the movie they did it 3 times, also you have to get there.  So...20 turns,  until the rebel base is destroyed.

New date for the Trench Battle, 1/2/13 (if the world does not end before that).  Basically to coincide with the opening of the new store.
