Howling Griffons Restopration
« on: August 19, 2012, 04:15:23 PM »
Ok I want to restore my almost a company of Howling Griffons. BUT their paint job is not up to Par, and their Veichles...are a mess both with paint and just constantly being re-assembled. What ide like to do is bring in  what is salvageable and I would like some of the more renowned painters to take a look and act like painting judges, tell me and even show me what I can do to improve the paint job to bring it to Par. I will gladly buy dinner for any one that wishes to help. :) Ale House on me? Or Pizza?

I really thought about this idea after Rich Bourque inspired me with his Space Sharks (I forget the real chapter name) and they and the Howling Griffons fought together in the Baddab War. So any one up for the challenge?

I think that all of us Badab Vets would be happy to have more Badab chapters in fighting strength. I generally only come around on thursdays. So, on any thursday, I'd be happy to have a look at all the stuff. I know Rich is usually there on Thursdays too.

I would gladly share the information that was imparted to me by all the much better painters from the BG community to get my army going.

I'm around Thursdays. Pretty much all of my armies have, until very recently, been red and obv. my Lamenters are yellow. I think I have some pointers.

Well it looks like I am looking at a company worth of Howling Griffons Minus any form of viechle except dreadnughts. It seems a bit over whelming of a project so... I would like to turn it into a social p[roject and ask any one who would like to take units at a time and re-paint them with the formula Ian has helped me with. eveything that is fully painted right now requires stripping but to re-vitalize this army I am going to need some help doing it. Any one up for a challenge?

Stripping models sucks.

Slow grow restoration.  Make this your "pretty army" and take your time with it for next year.

yeah problem is its already grown  :-\ Looking at the army i feel very over whelmed and I would like to make the army pretty and I have never stripped this much plastic before I dont know where or when to start since I will be moving hopefully this week. Its why im putting out a distress call on painting the army.

I would still be painting it myself of coarse but im going to need help to tackle this. i would have to dedicate time I cant dedicate to have it done within a year I have other projects too and other hobbies which demand time.  :-\

I have the same problem with my Dark Eldar army.

I've found that the longer you leave the model in green stuff, the easier it is to strip.  So I would just fill a big ole bucket with 2 whole gallons of green stuff, submerge as many models as you can, and forget about it in the basement for a month or so.

I also got an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner to HOPEFULLY eliminate that "scrubbing" step as much as possible.  You can get a cheap one for about $25 on Amazon.  In theory I should be able to just put the models in the jewelry cleaner, run it a few times, and they'll come out spotless... i'll let you know how it works.

Stripping isnt the problem as it is having a nicely painted army in a years time. Im moving to a new location so I can get a home depot bucket, fill it with simple green and let the models soak in it.

The problem lies in getting the models painted to par within a years time since I have other responsibilities and other projects that I want to do this may have to take a back seat unless I get help.
