Storm Raven Art
« on: July 27, 2012, 09:11:39 AM »
So I am putting together my Storm Raven for NOVA and decided to I wanted to do something special for the wings.  I contimplated doing regular wings Inquisition symbols etc but ended up with this design.  It is in really rough draft phase as this is the first outline and a bit sloppy to see if I could actually do it.  I plan on filling the design in gold keeping a thinner black outline around it.  Please let me know what yall think and if you want to share your own Storm Raven art.

First my inspiration

And now Rough outline of wing art

I think it looks great.  Did you do that free hand?

When you're actually painting it, remember the left (port side) head has an eye, the right (starboard) does not.

Have you considered stencils?

That was all freehand from looking at the Pin on my gamers bag.  I did look at stencils but couldnt find one that I wanted to use.  I even have transfer paper so I was debating that as well however I think freehand gives a little something extra.

Some of the critiques I have gotten from my buds is the tail feathers should take up the entire dorsel fin however it is thin on the design.  I could add the claws but not sure if it would look right.

I would say definitely leave off the claws.  It would only confuse the tail feathers, in an area that is already very limited for space.  Thanks for the inspiration, I'm really excited to go back and get my Stormraven a finished look after seeing this.  I'll add some pics once I get a design going.  Keep adding pics as you progress with this!

The tail looks great. I'd leave it.

Without the tail, I don't think I could tell what's supposed to be going on.

First update.  I put on first section of gold and tightened the black lining a bit.  Added the eye to left wing.  Should have right wing done very shortly.

It is a cross between the 2

Update 4 - I am not comfortable with the entire shape of the graphic so this will be final outline.  Now its time for second coats and fine tooth trimming on black outline.

I would apply a really watered down black ink wash to make it pop out more.

Once the Storm Raven is done I will be putting a coat of wash over the whole thing to give it a nice dark finish. Update 5 will come shortly as I have decided to do both my ravens in this manner at the same time.
