Overwatch isn't really that much of a deterrent from being assaulted, in my experiences.  The best way I've seen and used to limit Overwatch is when assaulting a unit, I try my best to have 2 units assaulting at the same time.  Send the "weaker" of the 2 units first, and let Overwatch fire be shot at them, and then have the "stronger" unit charge afterwards, avoiding Overwatch completely.

Also, think twice before assaulting Snipers or units comprised of numerous Characters.  While playing against a Dark Eldar player, he tried to assault a unit of my Snipers with his Wyches.  On my Overwatch, I rolled 6 6's, wounding on 4 of those rolls.  He lost his Succubi and both Hydra Gauntlets as a result of that (+the one regular Wych).  Granted, I got ridiculously lucky rolling that many 6's on only 10 shots, but the end result of that Assault Phase obviously worked out in my favor.  ::)

Im going to go by the fact your talking about Precision Shots from the Sniper Rifles. The problem is you can never get Precision Shot from a Snap Shot so you shouldn't be choosing targets to allocate the wounds too. If not then Im misunderstanding what your saying.

But ya Overwatch really hurts anyone Not in Power or Termi type armour. Benjamin has Bloodletters and they get just mowed down by Overwatch. your tactic about multiple Assaults works great if you have a lot of Assaulting units otherwise.

Over watch with twinlinked weapons is where its at even agaisnt power  armor. My bikers where having a field day agaisnt korn berserkers when 6th first came out. With 5 bikers i was hitting 3-5 times with over watch. Also, over watch is pretty nice with sterngaurd getting to choose there type of shots.

I have yet to try assaulting with my bikes only because they do so much better now out of combat than in combat

Don't Assault with Bikes unless its a Command Squad. The lack of Attacks and the lack of Special Weapons will leave your bikes in a Long long gruesome fight that most likely they will not win.

The only other thing I have to say about bikes is the Rumour of a Crusader Bike Squad that showed up on the Release rumour thats been making the rounds.

Sorry, but where does it say exactly that Snap Shots and Precision Shots can't work in tandem with each other?  I've looked in all 3 sections (Snap Shots, Overwatch, and Precision Shot), and couldn't find any reference as to the two not being able to be used together.

Thanks!

Under Characters on page 63 under Precision Shots Small like Sentence right after the paragraph Explaining Precision Shots.

I think the reason overwatch hasn't been an issue for you is because you're drop podding in and will probably be within 6" of what you want to charge at the start of your next turn. Against more traditional opponents that are coming across the board, losing a model or two from the front will often make the difference between getting off a charge or not.

Deep Striking doesn't make a difference. It's just the math that power armor > not power armor. Plus, if you're within the 12" to consider an assault, you're within rapid fire distance of the enemy.

Every time I assault, I feel like I'm being punished. If I'm not getting lit up by Overwatch, I'm failing the random charge distance roll.

Jaraiya has the essence of it. 6th Edition is more of a shooting edition than 5th ever dreamed of being.

I completely agree.  Ork boys get majorly thinned out by overwatch...usually enough to make the random charge fail.

I suppose our own experiences are quite different then. I've had a lot of power armoured units fail to get the charge in because I was able to kill 1-2 marines. A blobbed up squad of guardsmen with 2 flamers have worked out pretty well in that regard.

I agree that it's pretty murderous on orks (and guardsmen) too, but's it's not like power armour isn't affected. I think that people may be tempted to charge when they're too far away -- as a rule of thumb for myself, I won't consider charging until I see that one of my units starts their movement phase within 12" of the enemy.

In this regard, I'm the same. It's a holdover from 5th mostly, but being within 6" makes an assault more likely that not to succeed. At least before Overwatch.

Dang...  Oh well, since both my friend and I have both gained and lost from playing it incorrectly, no harm or foul yet.  Thanks for pointing that out!
