So Orks are awesome, and they are even more awesome in 6th...especially with allies.

So until they release plastic MegaNobz next year (if the rumors are true) and I can put together a complete Deffwing army (2000 points of MegaNobz and DakkaJets....woohoo), I am thinking of what allies I should add to da Boyz to make krumping fings a bit easier.

Space Commies (tau).  This is ShootHammer 6th ed, and the Bubblegum Crisis power suits...um fire warriors and broadsides add a lot of dakka to an ork army.

Space Undead (Necrons).  Powerful fighter craft, great anti tank, and a unit that always for more nightfighting (KFF Battlewagon + Nightfighting = fun) sounds like a good compliment.  And that Doomsday Cannon looks like fun.

Chaos Marines.  They are getting a new codex and GW loves their power armor.  Plus the new starter set will have Choas Marines in it, so it might be a cheap way to go (getting it anyway for the smaller book and Deathwing Termis to add to the Ravenwing...provided they actually put both armies in one box).

IG...meh.  Not wanting to paint another 5000 of the same guy.  Not sure if bunch of L. Russ battletanks will be all that great in 6th, but Ork Tankers would be fun.

So here I am tossing things around in my head.  Just wanted to see what everyone else out there thinks.

I think there are a couple of ideas when it comes to Allies. It sounds like you're primarily concerned with utility (over story/fluff), and you have the idea that your Allies should shore up the Ork weaknesses (as opposed to complementing their strengths).

Chaos is a difficult choice to make right now, because we don't know what will become of them. The big rulebook even hints Daemons will need to make psychic checks, so I'm completely at a loss, can't even guess.

Necrons and Tau can bring the dakka, but Tau Battlesuits are a rare commodity these days and certain to become rarer yet.

IG and Necrons would both be solid choices.

Too bad you can't take Imotekh...

IG would be great. Veterans would give you the ability to have accurate specialist weapons available and a squadron of Leman Russ' would be solid back up for mobz.

I play Imerial Guard and am seriously considering including an Allied Ork list for some added assualt power.  I think the two armies compliment each other well.

And it's not too "un-fluffy"... As orks and guard have worked together in the past...  Wasn't there a whole ork clan that worked for the Guard sometimes for more and better tech?  Or in the alternative, have some renegade merc Guard working for the Orks!

I run traitor guard, so a band of freebooters is par for the course.  I think the clan you are thinking of is the Blood Axes.

C'mon, Ben! Stop spreading misinformation. Imotekh just can't attach to an Ork squad, because they're allies of convenience. He can be taken as an allied HQ, though. I haven't seen any rule that says Imotekh's hatred of Orks prevents him from allying with them. He'll just be grumpy.

Eh, he doesn't hate them, he just can't wrap his mind around them.

Anyway, for my money, Orks and Tau is a match made in heavy.  Perfect opposites.  Tau's main problem is getting charged.  Nothing stops that better than a horde of orks.

He will shoot them with lightning (as they are treated as enemy units!)

this makes me happy, I am hoping we can include FW allies soon.   I've heard that FW is not going to be "opponent permission" much longer.

I am iffy about Forgeworld...some of it is nice and some of it is a bit over the top.

Tau look like a really good fit...but they are pretty pricey.  1 Broadside is now 40$ a pop (you buy the crisis suit and then the 15$ crapcast upgrade).  An Ork Green Tide with Flyer Support would probably need a couple of Broadsides, some firewarriors and a commander crisis suit with body guard.
