Abington's Official "unofficial" 40k night.
« on: June 07, 2012, 08:05:18 PM »
Ok im going to copy Ben over in Plainville. Its time we at Abington unite as a community and bring 40k back damn it! We can have a friendly rivalry with the other shop in tournaments, and other competitions when we merge both communities thats a lot of people!

a while back I started tale of X gamers. That proves we got a community! It fell appart cause well I was taken out of comission for a bit to keep the push going. Im still collecting and painting for the army of Tale of X Gamers. C'Mon guys unite! Order Vs. disorder! Orks Vs Marines! Gaurd Vs. Nids! Necrons Vs.....who ever they dont like! We can do it. I want to play 40k more often than I used to. Warmachine and Hordes is fun and all but its not the beer and pretzels game that 40k is and thats what I like especily with the Ale house just down the street to get a beer after games (well for those of age any way). Whos with me?

There are a bunch of new players at Abington and a group of people (including myself) are trying to "re kickstart" Saturday 40K. I'm just starting a new eldar army so I'm with you! Mabey you could rename this "Abington 40K night"

Imitation, flattery and all that. :)

My tips for success are simple.

Consistency is key. If you miss a week, it happens. If there's only one game that week, it happens. Familiar faces keep people coming back, which leads to...

Introduce people to each other and if you don't know someone's name, ask them. If you forget, ask again.

Most difficult to pull off is finding people to teach new players. Plainville has been great because we are blessed with friendly players who are also great teachers.

I don't know if posting results on a weekly basis helps, but it's something I like to do.

Now that I think about it... tuesday seems like a good day for 40K. Not a ton of people in the store (only few EDH players) and the gaming tables are all open. What do you think Steve?

Well I usually end up working Tuesdays sadly i don't know what my days off will be in the near future. As of now latter I will reliably have Thursdays and Fridays off.

Thursdays and Fridays eh... well sadly it does not seem that those nights are good for 40K (but i could be wrong). Thursday has a lot of WH/H players and they use some tables, and Friday, well we all know what Friday is (FNM). My idea is that we get a general consensus from all the 40K players in Abington to see what days work for them and then we can "pick" a day that seems to work for the most people. I'll start off: Tuesdays, and most weekends.

Thursday has been the best night for Plainville 40k for a couple reasons. First, people are willing to be tired on Fridays, because Warhammer nights tend to run a bit later. Second, on the weekends, there are events which tend to disrupt the all-important consistency.

I'm all for this, but am sworn off 40 k until 6th ;) playing fantasy until then. But I like the idea and there's no reason we can't do both. Once soccer is over for Sean we'll be using Saturday afternoons for  "Warhammer goodness"

For an in office eve, Thursday or Fridays work best for me.

Cheers,

I think fridays are out, too many magic players and not enough room. Thursdays don't seem too bad, though I still think we should hear from other Abington 40K players (they do exist :D) before we decide on a "unoffical" 40K night.

I too haven't cared much for 40K 6th, and I'm about to head south to Plymouth for the summer.  I share the King's concern about already hectic Thursdays and Fridays, but can't throw any weight behind early week games until I migrate again in September.

Hope you get something going, though.

I'd really suggest Saturdays. Thursdays are about to become not only WM/H nights, but Necromunda league nights as well. Additionally, Sean, our awesome press ganger, is planning another league that would likely meet on the already established WM/H night.

I'd like to see 40k see more play, too, but not at the expense of already established game nights.

I am in for this Saturday.  I will bring my Nids, even though (sadly) they are not all painted.  I am looking forward to it!
