Battleground Apocalypse Megabattle Overview:

Our annual Apocalypse Megabattle is here once again!  This year we are looking to pit 30 "Order" aligned players against 30 "Disorder" aligned players across 4, Apocalypse sized, custom made tables, each with it's own theme and 5, smaller, 4'x4' "skirmish" tables.

The factions are comprised as follows:

The forces of Order include:

Codex: Black Templars
Codex: Blood Angels
Codex: Grey Knights
Codex: Dark Angels
Codex: Eldar
Codex: Imperial Guard
Codex: Space Marines
Codex: Space Wolves
Codex: Tau Empire
Codex: Sisters of Battle (WD)

The forces of Disorder include:

Codex: Chaos Daemons
Codex: Chaos Space Marines
Codex: Dark Eldar
Codex: Imperial Guard - Renegade / Traitor themed and modeled armies only.
Codex: Necrons
Codex: Orks
Codex: Tyranids

It should be noted that ForgeWorld (Imperial Armour) lists may be used.  The side they fight for should correspond with the codex they best represent.

After choosing a side players will be asked to create a Battleground forum account.  This account will be given special access to that side's team message board.  This message board will be hidden from every forum member that is not on your team.  ALL of the coordination for your team will take place there.  Players are STRONGLY encouraged to be active on your team message board.  If you feel strongly about any aspect of the Megabattle, the team forum will be the place to bring it up.  Most of the news / developments involving the Megabattle will be posted on the team message boards.  Check it often!

The game itself will run using the Apocalypse rule set.  We try to stick as close to those rules as possible, but due to the nature and size of the event we have changed the way certain aspects work (mainly, strategic assets).  These changes will be posted below.

Much like in our Doubles events, players may not share "tech".   You can not use your allies teleport homer, jump into his transport, join your independent character to his squad, etc.  There are strange interactions however, like Epidemius and his "kill count" rule.

If you would like to bring heavily converted or scratch built models that is 100% fine and even encouraged.  Please submit those models (or pictures) to us ASAP so that we can approve them.  We like to think our Megabattle showcases the game of 40k and would like custom models to be up to a certain standard.

Remember, there is no Force Organization Chart in an Apocalypse game.  If you would like to bring 4000 points of Leman Russ Battle Tanks, go for it.  If you want to bring 4000 points of Tau Fire Warriors, go for it.

Summary
• The Megabattle tables will be arranged as follows:
One table - 10v10 - made of up six 4x6 tables.
Three tables - 5v5 - each made up of three 4x6 tables.
   Five tables - 1v1 - each made up of a 4x4 table.

• Models must be fully painted.

• We discourage players fielding models from multiple codices.

• The 4x4 tables will interact to some extent with another larger table.  The larger tables may or may not interact with each other.  Objective points scored on each table will be combined to determine your teams overall score.

• Each team must chose a table captain for each larger table.  This person will have specific duties during the Megabattle.  This is in an effort to keep things running as smoothly as possible the day of.

• You will not be allowed to deploy or transfer models to a table different than the one your team decides you will be playing on.  There may or may not be very, very limited exceptions to this based on table specific special rules.

• Any swapping of points with another player must be made from the same table section that you are playing on. For example, if a player has his forces arrayed on the moon table and has made an agreement with another player to have 500 points removed from their allies force and add it to their own, the donating player must also be playing on the moon table.

• You must have the official rules with you for any given model you are fielding. If you cannot produce the rules that accompany any model you are using the model will be removed from the game.  If you opt to print your data sheets out, you MUST be able to produce the rulebook if asked to.

Scoring 2012
The scoring method we are using for the Megabattle is identical to the scoring rules in the 6th edition of the Warhammer 40k Rulebook under the heading “Controlling Objectives” (pg. 123) with the following exception:

An objective is scored if a team has a scoring unit within 6” of it and the enemy has no contesting models within 6” of it. (Apocalypse Rulebook pg. 24 under the Victory heading)

Any model may contest with the exception of:

(As per "Denial Units" on page 123...)
Vehicles
Units embarked in a transport vehicle
Units OCCUPYING a BUILDING (not a unit in ruins)
Units with the Swarm special rule
If the unit has a special rule specifying that it never counts as a denial unit
The unit is currently falling back
Monstrous Creatures that are "swooping"

On the big table, each 4x6 section will have an objective either built into the table itself, or as (part of) a terrain feature. This objective may be located in your teams deployment zone, in the opposing teams deployment zone, or in no mans land. These objectives may not be removed or destroyed for any reason (exception: specific stratagems, but not vortex grenades or vortex missiles).

The smaller table will have 2 objectives.

Objectives will be worth 10 points a piece.

Scoring for YOUR TEAM ONLY will take place at the bottom of (end of) your player turn starting round 2.

Each table will score points independently.  The number of points your table scores throughout the event will be divided by the number of rounds that table has played.  This will give you your tables’ final score.  The final scores on each of the tables will be combined and the team with the higher number will be our winner.

A maximum of 6 turns will be played.
No team scores on turn one (per rules of the Megabattle).
There are 5 scoring rounds.
On the big table there are 60 points available each round.
5 scoring rounds x 60 (max) points per round = 300 (max) points total.
300 (max) points / 6 rounds played = 50 (max) points contributed to the teams overall score.

Assets
The following Strategic Assets will be changed for this years Megabattle as follows:

Disruptor Beacon:
You must provide a model to represent the Beacon.  The Beacon should be built such that it is based on something roughly the size of a dreadnought base (60mm).

The Disruptor Beacon must be deployed at least 2" away from any terrain feature.

You MUST declare that you have a Disruptor Beacon and make sure the captain of the opposing side knows where it is, what it is, and what it does.  It is then the opposing table captains responsibility to keep track of the Beacon.

It will interact with Flank March is the following way:

The disrupted units must be replaced on a table edge as per the Flank March asset.  These models will not scatter.

It will interact with Demonic Possession and Major Possession not at all.

Jammers:
The Jammers asset is banned from the Megabattle.  No player may take or make use of this asset for any reason, even if the asset is provided to a player via Data Sheet.

Legion Relic:
The Order side will lose 2.5 Objective Points at the end each of their turns after the bearer has been killed.

Replacements:
You may not replace a model who's point cost exceeds 2499 points.  It is recommended that you also have an appropriate wreck marker for the model you plan to replace. (We understand that this request may not be realistic, but please come prepared if at all possible.)

Trophy Kill:
The objective created will be worth 5 points.

Vital Objective:
This asset must be chosen and revealed to ALL PLAYERS after deployment but before the first turn begins.  The opposing side WILL know which object you have declared as "vital".  This objective, if held at the bottom of the corresponding player turn, will be worth double its value in objective points.

Deployment
The deployment rules for the Megabattle are as follows:
(These rules assume we have 20 players per side and are subject to change based on any difference the day of the event)

The big table:

The big table table (City) will consist of 10 deployment zones, 5 on each side of the table.  Two (or more) players of the same team will be assigned one deployment zone.  Before round one begins your models may only be deployed in your designated deployment zone.

The dimensions of each deployment zone are:  57.6" wide x 30" deep

Reserves may come in from any legal table edge and do not adhere to the assigned deployment zone restrictions.  (Basically, Order controlled reserves can come in from any Order table edge and vice versa)

The smaller table:

The smaller table table (Moon) will consist of 6 deployment zones, 3 on each side of the table.  Each player on a team will be assigned 1 zone.  Before round one begins your models may only be deployed in your designated deployment zone.

The dimensions of each deployment zone are:  48" wide x 30" deep

Reserves may come in from any legal table edge and do not adhere to the assigned deployment zone restrictions.  (Basically, Order controlled reserves can come in from any Order table edge and vice versa)

Additional Rules
From Imperial Armour Apocalypse II:

Enhanced Destroyer Damage

The special rule exists to make Destroyer-type weapons even more devastating against Super-Heavy vehicles and is best used in very large Apocalypse games (over 7000 points per side, etc) both to increase the impact of the really big guns, not to mention speed things up a little and increase the number of very large explosions!

Super-Heavy vehicles that lose their last Structure Point to a hit from a Destroyer weapon add +1 to roll on the Cataclysmic Damage table to determine their fate.

From Imperial Armour Apocalypse II:

Crashing Flyers:

In the majority of games the rules for Flyers work perfectly well, with the destroyed Flyers having no effect on the battlefield when destroyed 'in the air'.  But it can be quite fun as well as somewhat cinematic to have their burning wrecks smashing into the ground!  The optional rule is not intended for an overly competitive game but rather one where maximum carnage is desired on all sides!

Flyers (other than those in Hover Mode acting as Skimmers that turn) that are shot down during the game crash and explode using the following rules:

Crash Direction:

D6          Result
1            The Flyer crashes 45 degrees forward and to the left of its current direction
2-5         The Flyer crashes straight on
6            The Flyer crashes 45 degrees forward and to the right of its current direction

Crash Distance:

Roll 4D6 to determine the distance the crash takes place in inches from the Flyer, and place the Hellstrom template's forward (wider) edge so it is touching this point and its rearward (narrow) point so it is pointing at the center of the Flyer before removing the model

Crash Damage:

Anything caught under the template suffers a Strength 4 hit on a D6 roll of '4+' and vehicles take an automatic Strength 6 hit on their side armor.

If the Flyer that crashes is a Super-Heavy or Gargantuan Creature, the procedure is as above but the hits inflicted are at Strength 7 (with no AP).

If any part of the template leaves the tabletop, the Flyer is assumed to have careered away and crashed elsewhere and no damage is inflicted on the ground.

You will not need 4000 points, although it is recommended at the time being.

If you're having trouble getting up to 4k points, I don't mind lending you a superheavy or two the day of the megabattle for you to use (that is, if you're playing on the side of order).
