So the fact that I don't know a damn thing about WHFB has made this thread sort of difficult to read through.
Here's what I've taken from it and some opinions / comments I have:
It seems like people want us to run a team tournament.
It seems like "ETC" style Singles events have been really popular in the region lately.
I am primarily concerned with running a tournament that will get the largest number of players to come out. I would love it if we were able to design an event that would get the Tuesday night guys to play and also appeals to newer players.
The Pro-Am idea, while great in concept, may fail in practice. I'm not sure how I feel about it. We are likely to see maybe 3-4 people that are actually "new" or "less experienced." Having a guy like Keith register with High Elves as an amateur makes little sense. I think it's super likely that the teams with the actual new players get rolled and the team with the more experienced players crush. What's the solution for 16 people registering and 10+ being FAR from "new or inexperienced"?
If there were a way to make this Pro-Am thing work, while still attracting a lot of players, I would do it. In fact.... I may do it anyway.
I am really intimidated by writing rules for something like this. I don't understand very much about the game, restrictions, what people have suggested in this thread, what the abbreviations mean, and all that. I'll do what I can a little later, but I'll need a LOT of help.
Jeez... It could be great or it could be a giant failure. Do we stick with what will definitely work out, or do we "risk it" and give the calendar spot to something that may or may not work?
I sort of want to try it...
