speaking for someone who lives in weymouth and can't legally drive for another year, it's a lot easier to have it be a 1 day thing on the weekend. But thats my opinion.

we all know that, but the reason i say such a thing is that some people do drive and work weekends... hence the unusual idea

My only hold back from doing a tournament for fantasy really is not knowing all the rules so much that playing in a tournament feels wrong to me since I don't know all the rules and strategies etc... Plus if folks are REALLY competitive and will nickel and dime of a millimeter then leave me out for now.

Not to be too harsh about this, but if your unit is >11 inches away from me, and you move 5, and roll a 6 for your charge, you don't make it.  I don't think that is bad play or cheesy or wrong in any way.  Generally, if things are really close, a 4+ roll on a d6 is better to settle it anyways.

If you don't feel ready, then maybe just drop by during the next one and check it out,  I think the fantasy events have a different feel than the 40k ones do.

That's a fact.  The WHFB events are a lot more chill.

I liked the Lost Legion's tournament format: very few army restrictions, not many changes to the core rules, pizza lunch included in entry fee!  I think 2hr 15 min was a little short for 2500 point games.  Maybe smaller points value to encourage fully painted armies?  Either way if BG hosts something on the 21st or 22nd I should be there.

Yeah, that was my only concern with the LL tournament was with time vs points.  So, something a little bit smaller, point wise, wouldn't be bad.

Pizza sounds good too ;D

I think the reason a lot of us play in tournaments is because we cant commit to coming down to the store often. For me the idea of spreading it out over multiple days or weeks just doesn't work.

Buy your own pizza. It keeps the ticket price down  :P

ETC restrictions are the most common. They do limit the size of units, but they make sure to limit the elite infantry more. I think that ETC is a good guide for making tournaments a little more balanced.

Game size is usually best around 2250 - 2500 for a reason, when the game gets smaller then that you tend to have a lot more stupid situations where one die roll or IF spell can just end the game. It makes cheese things more potent. I would love to play 2999, but I know that would just lower the turn out. I think we should shoot for 2250 if people want smaller games.

As for the competitive aspect. If you came to one of the BG tournaments you would see that its very laid back.

My 2 cents:
Multi day would be a very small crowd, as jake said if I can scrounge up 1 day to play every 2 weeks it is fairly lucky.
Depending on the crowd you want to attract, the size and format are important.  For the local GT players and other fairly competative groups, the 2250-2500 range is good.  Also using ETC restrictions is a great way to get more people as many players love to "practice" that format.  Also it tones down the crazy stuff and buffs the weaker armies.
On the flip side, if you wanted to make it more assessible to newer players, teams are always fun.  Like 1250 a team would make for decent games.  Teams tend to naturally cause the games to be wacky which limits needed restrictions.
One thing I have thought of :  what would people think of a Warhammer mixer of sorts?
This is what I mean.  Every shows up with 2 1250 lists.  Teams are randomly matched and between the team, they pick what lists to use for the whole event.
The 2 lists are to help the issue of "we both brough lvl 4's". Which screws folks at that point level.
I think this might help newer players feel more comfortable with a teammate, and get the community to meet each other.
There are some gaming groups in the area that might be interested in coming by for the tourney (from CT, Cape, etc).
Happy to spread the word when we know the format.

I am a firm advocate for etc rules, the only grievance i have is the 40 model cap /450pt per unit.  I think its a bit frustrating for some core choices( the 40 model cap) and the 450pts cap would be better served at 500pts so u can atleast take a 40 block of special units ie. black orcs/gravegaurd/bestigor/ and the lot. . . .which wouldnt be over powering, but more convienant that having to take 34-37 just to fit it in with full commands... .kinda pisses me off to be honest. Other than that I think the rules are mint. . . just my 2 cents on the etc format

i like the idea of 1250 lists and everyone then gets a random partner but to make it more fair, we could have every "pro" player be paired with a newish player so you don't have a team of 2 newish players getting crushed and a pro team just killing everyone. That's just my 2 cents.
