questions about plainville 40k crowd
« on: February 29, 2012, 10:02:46 AM »
So what is the 40k group like in general?
Do players at the store generally prefer competitive games or 'beer & pretzels' games?
Narrative missions or book missions?
Army lists tailored for a scenario, just for fun units, or the dreaded "netlist"
What about Forgeworld?

a little of both, low key fun games but when there is a tournament coming guys come to practice their competitive lists

usually just book missions but i'm sure you would find people interested in more complex ones

whatever list you want to bring

generally non-forgeworld lists, but the Trios tournament a few days ago did allow FW units. (a lot of armies use forgeworld stuff proxied as something else (contemptor dreads for reg dreads, FW figs for reg figs etc)

You will find just about everything in Plainville, from brand new players to competitive GT veterans and everything in between. Games run anywhere between 500-2500 points. The vibe is fun and learning, trying to help everyone become a better player with each game. Everything is expected to be done by the book (and Errata/FAQs), to keep it all fair.

Most popular army in Plainville is currently Tau, followed by Tyranids. Something different in the drinking water over here...

I would say it is more serious play. I don't think I ever played vs a fluffy army when I played 40k in plainville.

If I play, I field whatever I feel like / enjoy using.  If it does well, awesome!  If not... oh well.

If you're having fun playing a game, you're doing it right.

Well this sounds promising,  If I'm honest with myself I not a very competitive player (partly because I don't get to play enough to be a strong general).

No complaints about Tau from me; they are my favorite army, maybe I'll pick up some pointers on playing them better.  Although right now they are in the 're-theme and convert' box.

So on Thursday nights are there usually enough people for a pickup games?

The winter is makes things unpredictable, but if you need a game scheduled ahead of time, this thread is your best bet.

I'll say usually, yes, there are players enough for a pickup game.

I hate that you're leaving.  :(

Yeah, it's tough all around, heh.

Just keep telling people that it's still a game, first and foremost, so enjoy / have fun with what you're doing!  ;D

I mean hell, I run non-Tervigon non-Termigaunt shooty Tyranids with Biovores... can't get much more "... what?" than that! :)

Yeah, now that the warmer weather is starting to come back I'm going to try and make the journey up and get some play in, probably not the only one thinking this.

Hey guys are there any other days that people play pick up games at the store besides the week.  I really am trying to get back into the game and the week is just so hectic with my job.

I suggest making a post about what location, day, and time you'd like to get a game.  I would imagine someone would love to play.

Well if I happen to not make it in to this tournament I would love to do something either Sat or Sun at the Plainville location

In the instance that you don't get to play on Saturday, I would shoot for Sunday.  Literally the entire store will be given over to the tournament on Sat.
