Needs to at least have the same arm / body weapons, as those are based off the cards for what is equipped on the Warjack.

Other than that... I'm not really sure if there's a restriction.
Reality is a cruel and unintuitive place with rather frustrating game-play mechanics.

If you do a great job Chase and gang won't care but I can't speak for other stores some take it very serious.

I'm based out in Cambridge but i come down for tournaments when ever I can. Otherwise I'd totally help in the fight against Thursday 40k.
Waramchine is a great game, no question. The rules are solid, the balancing is superb, and it is so much fun. I just got back from Templecon where I played 18 games in 3 days and can't wait to play more. Seeing all the different factions and what people do differently with each one of them was really cool.

If you're just getting into it, I highly recommend getting a battle box. $50, 3-5 solid models, and starter rules. If you're thinking about Kahdor or Protectorate, then definitely consider the 2 player battle box for $100. Each player gets around $150 worth of stuff for $50. Split it with a friend, get your son in on it, sell one side off, or keep em both. Keep the mini rulebook that comes with it though. That thing is gold.

As far as play styles, if you like shooty armies, try anything but cryx. While Cygnar does have the most guns, every faction has some decent ranged options that become really powerful with the right support. Just go with what looks best to you desgin-wise and you'll be off to a good start.
Play casual games to start learning, and don't be afraid to try out tournaments early on too. My first tournament I won first place, so, there ya go. But more importantly, I learned a ton about how the game works, and how other models in other armies play as well. Over all knowledge of the game is a gradual, slow process, but really helpful if you want to a better player. The more casters you play with and against, the more threats you are aware of, and the better you know how to deal with them.

That, and it's an awesome game. Good luck.

lol I actually already ordered the 2 player battlebox, i'm going to be at BG in Plainville Thursday for 40k doubles practice but i'm going to get there a bit early to check out some Warmachine stuff and probably pick up a Khador or Cygnar codex then (or whatever Warmachine calls a Codex)

I plan on assembling the Battlebox (and buying some other models) and studying the rules in my free time so when i'm done with 40k Trios at the end of the month i'll have a basic understanding and hopefully find some opponents for learning games
