League Play in 2012
« on: February 01, 2012, 12:18:39 PM »
Hey all, as some of you may have noticed, it's Warmahordes league season again. Up here in Cambridge the Ard Boyz are getting ready for the War-Torn Alliances, happening right after Gen Con. I was wondering if you guys were doing the same. Both BG stores have a pretty strong PP community that seems to be growing, and I think hosting this league would help further that. It also might help encourage higher attendance in future tournaments. Plus, it's a lot of fun, and the overall winner gets a snazzy medal. I was curious to see what your plans were in regards to it.

I've been waiting to play in a league but plainville lacks the players to do so. Abington is a maybe I don't know where they stand on active players.

C'mon Plainville, lets rally some support for this! We need to host something like a paint and grow league to kindle some interest in plainville. I personally am going to be doing the league at another store, which is disappointing because i really like the plainville group.

I've went to Warmachine night in Abington a couple weeks ago and everyone was playing/painting 40k. I know Dystopian Wars is also fairly popular up there. I'm sure a power shift will occur when new releases pick up and the next expansion comes out later this year.

The problem is my limited time.  Leagues require a fair amount of work on the stores end and I don't have the time to devote to it currently.

At the end of the summer (post Gencon) I have no idea what the workload will look like.  It's certainly a possibility.  Plainville saw a bit of a WM/H explosion last summer, so we'll see what happens.

We've also JUST got a Press Ganger.  Maybe Sean will want to spearhead stuff.

Not to pressure anything  or anyone, but Sean is doing tale of 16 gamers. I wouldn't want to have him shift his focus off a event he allready is doing. So that is a other reason to wait for the summer I guess.

You stopped going to Abington long before that.

Pretty much tale of 16 gamers did help the mini community breathe some life into 40k.  Once it is done and if a league started up (and the minuteman comes out), I don't see why myself and others won't pickup warmachine again.

Edit:  I keep hearing people say the warmahordes community is dead in Abington.  I only know of one person actively choosing to sit out of w/h at the moment.  The rest are just minigamers enjoying a league.  As we all know, most have limited time / resources so if the main play group is wanting to do x, the rest of the play group may shift that limited time for that fixation.

I know I only switched to 40k for a while just slow down my obsession of warmachine.  I have a feeling other players are in the same baot.

Sorry if this is ill formatted or incoherent, Im in a hospital bed on hospital medication so thatMs my excuse.

I did officially justg become a Pressganger, so I'm open to ideas. Id love to run something. I think league play is a lot of fun. I hang in Abington on Thursday nights. Warmahordes isn't dead. We played nonstop for the past year and 40k is getting a bit of life. That doesn't mean we threw away our PP stuff.

Also, if anyone was wondering if I can juggle tale of 16 gamers and Warmahordes, I'll say this: just about all my Trollbloods are painted and I can paint Guardsmen and Space Marines pretty fast. :)

Congrats on becoming a PG, Sean. That's pretty awesome.

For the record I wasn't trying to shit all over everyone in Abington with my first post. I just pointed out what was going on there the last couple times I've been by. I am by no means a regular so it probably wasn't even fair to comment in the first place. And if it wasn't clear in my first post I get that most people juggle several games and popularity often comes in waves. I wasn't trying to bash anyone there.

Anyway, I think a league at some point would be a good idea. Maybe bi-monthly tournaments too. If you ever want help building terrain or anything let me know.

I wonde, since there are so many new players if a battlebox tourney would generate any interest. I've always wanted to do one. The buyin is small too.

Jon, I didn't think you were down on us from that day. We just got a little burnt out.

Maybe the barrel roll will return. Warmachine is in need of a pick up. If Ed returned then I'm down for whatever.
