Battleground 40k Invitational Information
« on: January 02, 2012, 07:12:40 PM »

Battleground Invitational 40k Tournament

On January 5th, 2013, Battleground will host an Invitational Event to celebrate the community's best of the best.

Earning an invitation is simple... but not easy.

For each Singles and Doubles Battleground Tournament, the winning players for Best General and Player's Choice will each receive an invitation. In Doubles events, each winning team member will be extended an invitation. *

Battleground also wants to award consistency, both in tournament results and community support. Thus, we introduce...

The Battleground 40k Standings

By finishing a Battleground 40k event, every player will earn points based on the number of competitors in the tournament. **

After the last tournament in November, Battleground will award invitations to the top players in the Standings, filling out the ranks until our Top 32 are invited!

The Invitational Event

The Invitational will be free to attend. After all, we are inviting you!

As the particulars of the event are parsed out, we can tell you a part of each tournament's prize pool will be given over to the Invitational prize pool.

Know there will be only two prizes, but they will be among the largest ever given out at a Battleground tournament. We hope to have a significant high-stakes event, the ultimate chance to crown two of our community's finest with well-deserved titles! In the end, there will be but one Best General and one Player's Choice.

* Should a player qualify twice (or more), the invitation(s) will be awarded to the second place finisher, and so on until an invitation can be awarded to a new player. If one member of a winning Doubles team has already qualified, the invitation will go to the other member of that winning team, and no "extra" invitation will be extended during that event.

** For those who like formulas: Points = (# of players + 1) - Position
Basically, a 1st place player will receive a number of points equal to the number of players who enter the event. 2nd place will be awarded one point less, 3rd one less than 2nd place and so on.
Points awarded for Doubles events will be based on the number of teams, not the total number of players.

This is a fantastic idea. I can't wait to see how it pans out. Hopefully I can earn a spot.

If my estimates are close (and they might not be), you'll just need to finish in the Top 16 or so of "Players Who Didn't Win" to be invited. That number depends on how the Doubles Tournaments shake out too.

Tournament in December. 11 Months not including December. Take month out or 2 for Ard Boyz add in 3 of those being double tournaments. Means 12 People will qualify from 1st place or so then you have the players Choice for all these tournaments which will mean another 12 people possibly. So 24 people will be decided by awards. You figure those 24 people will also be in the top rankings most likely so if you go to every BG event and score in the middle you will probably be invited.

Who knows what will happen. It gets my blood boiling thinking about it. The end of the year its the best of the best playing to see who will be the BG 40k Champion*.

*Title still under Consideration

With absolutely nothing written in stone at all, and purely hypothetical...

Suppose 11 months, then two less for Ard Boyz and two less for Trios and one less for Megabattle. 6 months, 6 tournaments.

2 Doubles, 8 (2x2x2) players qualify (at max)
4 singles, 8 (4x2) players qualify

So that's 16 qualifiers at most, with 16 left to qualify through the standings.

I think it'll be a fun experiment, and I hope that's how people approach it!

When mapping this all out this is the conclusion I came to.

For various reasons I can't recall at the moment, I remember placing the 4th singles tournament being problematic.

Battleground has been approached by a few people, clubs, and/or organizations that would like us to host, sponsor, or try out their events in 2012.  I think this speaks to what our local community has done for the hobby in the area and I'm interested in giving these people, clubs, and/or organizations a shot.  The downside is that these events take up a time slot on the calendar and will not be solely a Battleground venture.  Because of this, several of the events this year may not feed into our Invitational.

Like Ben has mentioned, this is experimental.  I am very interested in how it all works out.  It has potential and I am very much interested in feedback as the year progresses.

It hasn't been mentioned yet, but I do believe this upcoming tournament on the 7th is the first tournament of the year to count toward the standings. Chase can confirm.
