Standard Issue Lists
« on: December 07, 2011, 05:51:01 PM »
I am going to participate in the Standard Issue Tournament at Templecon. It’s a 50pt SR2012 tourney with a prize drawing after each round. To be eligible for the drawings you can’t include any FA:C models in your army other than your Warcaster/lock.

Here are some lists I’m kicking around.

List #1:
- General Adept Nemo (+6 jack points)
^ Centurion (9) – 3
^ Cyclone (9) – 9
^ Ironclad (7) - 7
^ Stormclad (10) – 10
^ Squire – 2
- Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (6) + UA (2) – 8
- Stormguard [Full Unit] – 9
- x2 Stormsmiths – 2

I have 3 questions about this list:

- 2nd Cyclone vs. Centurion: Nemo has Polarity Field so the Centurion feels potentially redundant. Conversely having multiple warjacks that can’t be charged might be worthwhile and problematic for an opponent. Or maybe by taking the Centurion I free up the spell to be cast on my infantry unit(s) or even Nemo himself. This also gives me a third beatstick, or a hard model I can lead my army off with (ARM 23 ignores disabled systems with the Failsafe spell). Still, the Cyclones can do two-hand throws and are a decent POW 16 with Eletroleap while under the effects of Lightning Shroud.

- A Firefly?: It makes sense thematically and give me a reason to finally paint mine. I don’t know how to squeeze one in. Is it worth it? I really don’t think I want to forfeit a heavy for one as heavy warjacks are Nemo’s primary kill condition.

- Stormguard vs. Stormblades: The Gun Mages give me utility and the ability to pick off light infantry, but I may come across crap like Man-O-Wars or Bastions. POW 10’s are almost useless at that point (although I can push them). Stormguard can really trim down hordes, but also hit at a respectable P+S 12 and can CMA. Stormblades hit like a truck, but will struggle against numbers. I feel this choice is possibly contingent on the number of Cyclones I choose to play.

Thoughts?

List #2:
- Lord Commander Coleman Stryker (+6 jack points)
^ Cyclone (9) – 3
^ Stormclad (10) – 10
^ Squire – 2
- Jr. – 3
- Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (6) + UA (2) -8
^ Sentinel (4) – 4
- Stormblades (5) + UA (3) + x3 WA – 11
- Stormguard [Full Unit] – 9

My only thought on this list is whether or not the Sentinel should be in Stryker’s battlegroup. He’s meant to hang around and take any shots meant to lay Stryker low.

List #3:
- Captain Jeremiah Kraye (+6 jack points)
^ Centurion (9) – 3
^ Cyclone (9) – 9
^ Hunter (6) – 6
^ Hunter (6) – 6
^ Sentinel (4) – 4
^ Stormclad (10) – 10
- x2 Gun Mage Captain Adepts  - 4
- Rangers – 4
- Rangers – 4

Tier 4 Kraye list w/ benefits included in point total.

List #4:
- Captain Victoria Haley (+5 jack points)
^ Stormclad (10) – 5
^ Squire – 2
- Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (6) + UA (2) -8
^ Hunter (6) – 6
- Storm Strider – 9
- Storm Strider - 9
- Stormblades (5) + UA (3) + x3 WA – 11

Second Storm Strider or Defender? Also, I could swap pHaley for eHaley evenly - would that be better?

Right now I really want to bring out eNemo, which would then mean I'd pass on Kraye because I don't want to double up on jack casters. Then it comes down to Stryker vs. Haley.

I really like the eNemo list.  the cyclones can throw down templates on your other heavies preventing single wound infantry from charging or even getting in B2B with any of your heavies.  However this won't help against jacks/beasts/multiwound.  It's a tough call for sure.  You also lose some heavy hitting melee if you drop the centurion.  I would take  Nemo and eHaley.  Mainly because eHaley can run the scenarios for you and eNemo can just be eNemo.  And yes eHaley over p.  Does eHaleys theme list with the two storm striders have a C type model in it?  If not maybe go with that.

When it comes to the Nemo list it's basically Cyclone + Stormblades vs. Centurion and Stormguard. It's just a matter of which board control/denial quality I want my 4th heavy to possess.

As for the eHaley tier list, you need to have Thorn in it. He is also her only arcnode option in that army.

List 1 thoughts:

a.  I like the Centurion for the reasons you stated here.  He can be ready for a counter charge on your lead model or he can be the lead model.  I like to run my model with Polarity Shield up front then a counter charger ready behind.

b.  When I played the Nemo theme force I fielded 2 Fireflys and they do help with the stormsmiths triangle other than that I had to get real creative with them.  If you want to take them, take two and use them a bunch first.  I think with experience they can be good but as just an add on you might find them under performing.

c.  I like stormblades here to tackle your high armor infantry and can help with Jacks.  A great flanking force.  Gun Mages and them can easily handle any infantry light or heavy of any size.

List 2
I like to have that shooting in my army, but perhaps marshalled you can get the same results without having to allocate focus

List 4
I say no on second storm stryder.  It is really cool but I think one is enough.

just my thoughts...
You're putting words in my mouth and creating false scenarios.

You'll get "real answers" when you recognize your fallacies, however, they won't be from me. Enjoy your Internet tough guy routine. - Ian

Thanks for the feedback, Joel. My responses point by point...

List 1:

a. I think the big guy is going to stick around. I'm actually thinking that if I throw Failsafe on him and then Polarity Field on the Cyclone that has just dropped its templates then that is a big middle finger.

b. I guess when it comes to it, what does the Firefly do other than help get off triangulations and whatnot? I can see the value as it means Stormsmiths are no longer making suicide runs up the table, but it just seems like a high price to pay.

c. I think I've gotten to the point where I will take Stormguard over Stormblades IF they're painted in time. With 3-4 heavies I'm fairly confident in my ability to deal with armor. I can also push and maybe KD enemy heavies with Gun Mages for extra help. The anti-swarm role of the 'guard is doing it for me.

List 2:

a. I guess the thing is that I envision the Cyclone advancing fairly steadily while the Gun Mages will probably hang back a bit. The Sentinel is there for the off-chance I need shield guard, which in retrospect probably isn't the best use of four points. I should probably find a way to work a Hunter in there since he's way better for Marshaling purposes.

List 4:

a. Fair enough, but I'm in the process of painting my second and I want to use it!  ;)

So how did your list fair at Temple Con?
I got a 1!....That's a good thing, right?

I missed the tournament due to helping a friend judge painting at the 40k and Fantasy events.

I did squeeze in a game against Sean using the new eHaley tier list. I'd recommend taking it for a spin if you're a Cygnar player.

Nope, Skorne player. Sort of assembling Khador when I can, but I'm painting my models now so I don't have to see so much damn metal! I enjoy seeing my models painted.

I hear ya. I've got a bit under 300pts of Cygnar done at this point, but I've got three other factions with relatively few models done so for the time being I need to concentrate on them a bit. I know once the Cygnar Colossal and Nemo3 come out it'll be back to the grind with them.

Nemo3?  Legendary-Super-Epic Nemo?  Is he really on the horizon?

Yeah, in the next book (called Colossals) the original four main factions get the third incarnation of one of their casters (Nemo, Gaspy, Kreoss and Vlad), while Ret gets Epic Vyros and Mercs get a 3rd Searforge caster (General Ossram or something like that).

These new casters are bigger models meant to be more eye catching centerpieces from what I gather. Kreoss, Vlad and Vyros are all mounted, which I don't really dig. Three mounted casters in one book feels like a cop out in a way. Nemo (and I think Gaspy too) is a multi-model caster featuring Nemo and Storm Chaser Adept Finch. Finch is a chick who looks like a Storm Smith but with a way more elaborate staff and backpack with coils and junk. The concept art for them and Vyros is in NQ #40. Nemo's suit looks even bigger than his epic's. He practically looks like he's got a Storm Tower built into his suit.

Vyros looks more like the Dawnguard he leads now. I'm 99.9% positive he'll make their cav worth taking via Elite Cadre or some other ability, because right now their like Diet Storm Lances.

Nice.  Nemo was always one of my favorite Cygnar casters... now, I want epic Darius in Colossal suit...

But mounted Vlad?!?  Jeez!

Yeah, I was hoping Nemo would just be strapped into a Storm Strider.

I still really want Siege2. I'd have thought that would be out before the third version of another caster.

Vlad3 looks a little... special... with the silly helmet he's got. I hope the model is better than the art.

He's Khadoran.  Aren't they all a little "special".

Jon forgot to mention the part where eHayley died by arcantric bolt. All eGrissel had left was her and a half dead axer staring down two disco balls (aka Storm Striders)

We can rematch again Jon, don't worry.
