Imperial Armor Apocalypse (2nd Edition)
« on: November 14, 2011, 06:40:46 PM »
Any chance of this being legalized at Battlegrounds?
A most persuasive argument can be found at:

IAA:2nd really does update some of the lackluster Codexs out there while not overpowering the fresher ones.

HEY! My tau already assault too much! DONT TEMPT ME WITH SOMETHING THAT WILL ENCOURAGE ME MORE! but yeah, it does sound like it adds some exotic, but non ridiculous units. John, as far as i am concerned, i would almost always let you use an IA unit, as long as you brought along the rules and showed me them first. AND NO GODDAMN RENDING PONY

For better or worse, we have no plans to allow IA units or lists in our tournaments.  Most of the "fun" or "casual" events allow players to make use of them however.

Example:
TANKSgiving
The Vogen League no one wanted to play in.  ;)

For tournaments, doubtful. In casual play, sure I guess, so long as I get to bring some of those Daemons.

Outside of tournaments, I always play IA units.  Especially given how crappy the Chaos codex is both flavor and power wise.

Honestly the Land Raider Achilles all by itself spoils virtually all the fun. I don't care how much it costs, there shouldn't be a vehicle that is virtually unkillable by a good portion of the armies in the game. If it was unarmed, I'd say it's maybe balanced, but with a fantastic set of guns AND nigh-invulnerability, it's just too OTT to allow.

Most of the other stuff is pretty tame compared to its codex counterparts, but nearly all of it is clearly designed for Apocalypse, where OTT is the name of the game. Lance/Melta immune Land Raiders and AV13 Stormravens are not so cheesy when Strength D and super-heavies are rolling around the table, but they're just not balanced for standard games of 40k.

Besides, you guys REALLY don't want me playing Armoured Battlegroup. You will learn to rue the words "Slick Loader" and "Ace Gunner" :P

There is nothing OTT when compared to current codex choices when using things that are clearly for 40k.

Thunderwolf Calvary
Stormravens
Psybolt rifleman dreads
Drop podding split firing relentless long fangs

But hey, things we don't understand are terrifying.

I hope 6th allows for FW stuff.  Mostly because of the whining it will induce until the books and models become wide spread and everyone chills out.

The only real compelling argument against FW in tournament play is the lack of ease of accessibility to everyone. The rest of the claims are pretty unfounded.

But its a Land Raider with a Thunderfire Cannon on it :O.

Anyways ya its Nigh-Invulnerable for 325 points the only weapons on it are an Anti-Infantry Cannon Small Blast Heavy 4 and a 24" strength 8 AP 1 Twin-linked Gun Im not saying its not slightly OP but thats 1 1/4 cost for a Land-Raider for what Necrons had on the monolith for the longest time with less devastating weapons.

And quite a sight to put together...  I just got the sprues for the upgrade, and plan on making one for next year's Megabattle.

As for as how powerful it is, I would only play it an Apoc Game or a game where IA books were allowed.  Using it for Tanksgiving won't be a big deal, IMO, since there's likely to be plenty of Strength D weapons anyway.  But, I will say that without them, they'd be pretty tough to kill, even with Railguns being used against them.
