New to Warhammer 40K
« on: November 07, 2011, 03:28:37 AM »
Hi i am a "new" player that lives close to the Battleground Store in Abington and I would really like to get into Warhammer 40K. Now I know that a lot of people start with the Assault on Black Reach. Now i really want to get into the Imperial Guard but should i still get the black reach even know i won't be expanding on any of those armys. Also if i do get black reach is the hobby starter pack a good thing to get? Thank You and i am looking foward to playing some of you in the near future. - King of the Elves  :)

As Intro Pack Ed says, every army is playable so just go with what you like (evidently Imperial Guard). If you click with your army, you will play well and have fun, even if you lose. Also, as I had found out the hard way, make an army list, revise it, perhaps ask your fellow gamers what they think, and revise it again and again until you really feel it will work and be what you want it to be. Once you have made your list buy the models and try to kick some ass. I hope this helps.

Assault on Black Reach is meant as a demo to the game as a whole. If you've seen the game and know you want to play, go with the army that seems coolest.

Before you buy any models, I advise people to talk with other players (like you're doing) and figure out what playstyle you want (shooting, assaulting, lots of tanks, lots of infantry, etc.). If you have a list in mind before you buy some models, you'll be better off for it.

And yes, most of the activity on the forum these days is from the Plainville store, where there are a great number of Tau players and a handful of Space Marine players. The Abington store is a bit more evenness in what people play. There's just something in the drinking water in Plainville; maybe it's because the store is young and vibrant like the Tau.

And then there's the Tyranid players who just like to show up and nom on the Marines and Tau.

For the Emperor! / For the greater good!  ... with a side of fries.  ;D
Reality is a cruel and unintuitive place with rather frustrating game-play mechanics.

I think the water is tinged with RED if you know what I'm saying.

For content,

If you are the king of the elves, have you considered Eldar?  They are Space Elves.

The assault on black reach box comes with a lot of cool stuff for a beginner. Like scatter dice, templates, and probly the most important thing a 5th ed rulebook. If you dont want the marines or orks try to sell them to someone. Try for   around $40 each its a good price for what they get and you get a $50 rulebook plus the other stuff for 25 bucks. :) every body wins.

That's a great point.

Imperial Guard is a very solid choice, too.
