They should have put the codex out like a week before the models.  The thing is, I probably will need the codex before deciding what models I want to buy.  I don't think GW realizes we are in a depression and need to spend wisely.

Apparently the combination of Tomb Spyders regenerating Scarabs who protect Imothek, who is reportedly silly good, is quite effective.

Yup, some lucky guys out there are playing Necrons before you.

Sweet!  Good thing Scarabs and Tomb Spiders are available to me through normal means.... Oh... Wait... They aren't.  :(

Hopefully they're getting repackaged or re-done at the end of the month.

They aren't even on the GW site anymore.  /facepalm.

Necrons are finally up on the Games Workshop site! The stat line and some basic info about the new units are under their heading.

Scope them out and let me know what you think! There's still time to get those preorders in.


If I could get some feedback on what is good, what is bad, what's an "auto-include" and what you think a Necron player might like to have two or more of, that would be cool.  I know we still lack the point cost, which is incredibly important, but it seems like there's a lot of decent info in that dudes commentary.

The following assumes reasonable points cost and typical FOC restrictions.

If you went heavy with new release stuff, you'd be more than okay. The new stuff is what every player new and old will be looking for.

It looks like the crypteks and lords will function similarly to Space Wolves Wolf Guard, where you can buy a unit of them and distribute them to other units. I suspect a player might like about 3-6 of each, depending on which units the player would want to reinforce.

Deathmarks are the Troops version. They can pick out a unit and wound it on 2+, whether that's shooting or assault. That's very effective. They're also 3+ armor instead of 4+ like the Warriors.

More transports. A player could be using up to 9 of the Doomsday / Ghost Arcs models in one army.

My initial reaction to the product line is "two of each please!!!"

::slaps self:: ok thats better, i'm getting the codex on release day and sitting down and figuring what i want so i dont overbuy stuff that won't fit my playstyle

This is one of the few times where I wish I knew something about how to evaluate 40k stat lines and abilities...  Everything looks pretty good.

Warriors seem to be able to glance things to death again, which is great.
Flayed Ones get 3 attacks a piece and 4 on the charge... which seems insane.
Deathmarks seem crazy good.
The Cannon thing seems like it can just ruin the game for someone.
It goes on....

My opinions are the product of what seems to be good marketing...  Too bad it makes doing my job difficult.

As far as deathmarks go, I think that their popularity will be heavily based upon their points cost, I don't see them as a game winning unit.

the models/rules look good, but it seems that the lords and even the (swarmlord minus 5 points) character lord i still stuck with WS4. it seems like the only non WS4 unit in the army is that body guard guy for one of the names lords.

They aren't meant to be an Assault Army they are meant to slowly push in or out and lay down tons of Rapid Fire. In the New White Dwarf that I need to get a hold of They did a 4000 points doubles games 2 Necrons vs Space Marine and Eldar and Necrons lost. It was close but this is promising in the fact that its not another BS army like IG  Matt Ward is famous for pumping out.

Do we know ANYTHING about how the Lychgaurd / Praetorians play?  Are they any good?

Looks like I'm going to order almost 100% blind on them.
