Grayle lists...
« on: August 17, 2011, 12:49:40 PM »
So I am trying to figure out Grayle here.  It seems very difficult, possibly because he just plays differently than most Circle casters.

Anyhow, here is a first try.

Grayle (+6)
-woldwarden(9)
-Gnarlhorn saytr(8)
-Gorax(4)
Full unit of Wolves of Orboros, w/ UA (8)
Wolflord Morraig(5)
Tharn Ravager white mane(3)
LoTF(4)

Not totally sold on the LoTF being needed here, but having a lot of dangerous solo's for stormrager seems like the plan.

Combining with his feat for extra movement shenanigans (which is part of why i think I might really want some shifting stones).   It should be easier to get a solo in there.   Both the heavies are good at slamming things out of the way, plus having gallows availible is a plus.

I think i will need to practice this list a bunch to get used to how it works.   My first real assassination list.   Should be interesting.

Im not sure he needs a geomancy beast, it's nice but I think a stalker or pureblood fits better, especially a pureblood for the animus.

Lord of the feast and morraig are amazing with him.  White mane is right up there too.  I had min wolves in my list, for budget and because they're really more for flank with morraig than they are for hunter.

His feat is where it's at though for assassinations so put anything in the list that kills lots of stuff at once. The satyr I don't mind with him, not going to tell you nothing about him.

Good list, mine is similar:

Grayle
-stalker
-pureblood
-gorax

Min wolves + ua
Morraig
Lord of the feast
Whitemane

Just for comparison, I won't bully you into picking what I did or not. Always good to get other views though!

I get what you are saying, but Grayle can give his battle group awareness[/i.

This means i can gallows a caster, even if they are behind other things.  Especially good when you can pull them closer to something you are about to slam over them.  Then hopefully I have a heavy hitting you automatically, or just have your caster out in the open, hopefully KD.

It's funny, I think he's tricky for Circle because by Circle standards he's relatively straight-forward.

@ Keith - I like your inclusion of the Woldwarden. Awareness + Geomancy is a great combination. Using him to cast Gallows to pull something closer to Grayle or one of your "missile" solos is an awesome tactic.

I like the Gnarlhorn for even more movement buffs. I do like Dave going the Stalker route though for it's versatility - crowd control and taking on heavies. Plus warping for Prowl with Wind Blast in play seems pretty damn awesome.

I guess I'm wondering how many beasts to bring with him if you aren't packing a Wilder or stones. Two heavies seems ample if that's the case.

Morraig is clearly a beast in this list. Wind Blast gets him up the board safely and Storm Rager on him with Flank is nuts - MAT 14 on the charge? Pow 15 + 5D6 for his first attack and 4D6 with the second one he's probably getting with Cleave? Oh, and he's ARM 19 mounted with DEF 14 and can't be CMAed or CRAed. WTF?!

@ Dave - I would max out the WoO unit. They're not all that tough and they rely on numbers.

Here's what I had been toying with...

- Grayle
^ Stalker
^ Woldwarden
- Shifting Stones + UA
- Swamp Gobbers Bellows (for another 5" cloud)
- Bloodweavers
- Full WoO + UA
- Morraig

I like the LotF and was also thinking about tossing him in, but I keeping thinking that for scenarios the Bloodweavers might be better.

Hard to argue with that.

I was sort of undecided on the Gorax.

My thought with the list is opening up charge lanes for someone to get there.

Hence the Satyr and the woldwarden.

I think full wolves + UA is a must.  if only to have 1 guy there at the end to give morraig flank.

As jon mentioned..  MAT 14!!!   POW 15+5d6.

The interesting thing is I think Grayle can do the job, but is better at getting someone else to, since he can't get movement from his feat, but everyone else can.

I would say if at all possible it should be morraig, he can easily one-shot most casters and if he doesn't, you have a wolf lord and wolf in melee with your caster.  Grail should go for a kill if the primary choices are dead.

Also I tend to undermine trick spells like gallows, but with awareness I can see the use of a warden or megalith.  My list is more direct and blunt, you guys have the other end which favors tricks.  I think a middle ground is an ideal place to be.  Not quite relying on brute force or tricks.

September will be when the real tests will show up.  Side note, any news on baldur? I mean he took his hood off that must mean something good.  My guess is his feat will weight of stone everything in his control and his weapon will now make forests like Cassius.  Spells... I can see xerxis's spell that makes rough terrain, psychic vampire, two offensive spells, and a stoneform spell buff. Just a hunch.

Grayle is really getting all the limelight for circle.

We have no info on any of the epics for domination yet.

Though it does look like both circle and Skorne are getting a flying beast of some kind.

(Note: Circle is getting a gryphon)

I think part of my plan with this one would also be to get heart tokens on LotF and/or the whitemane  so that they are also a threat to casters.

LotF would be MAT 10, with POW 15 + 3d6  tokens for boosting attack roll or buying a second attack.

Keep in mind that using geomancy you can more easily juggle Storm rager across multiple models every turn.   Not that you always want to.

Where did you see a gryphon? I hear a warpwolf character upgrade...

I can see geomancy... What I cant see is the need for stones, you already have enough movement to kill shit with.

There is not a new character warpwolf.  There is a new warpwolf kit, from which you can make any of the three heavies.   Which is very cool.

There is what looks like a character Argus, possibly bonded with Grayle.

There is a blurry pic of a gryphon thing fighting against legion at Gencon (concept art).

Or... MAYBE we get a character light AND heavy YOU VEGGIE CHEWING ASSHOLE!

The argus was reported at comic con as just new artwork by a PP employee.  The griffon, nobody talked about, and it'll probablly come out in 2013.

Also google: woldseer

You're a future scientist think... New plastic kits, chance for upgrade kits.

Skinwalkers could use a UA, I would pick them up if they had a little something more than ravagers...

And people would pick them up if they had a little something more than the whitemane/gatormen posse.
